AFAWA Finance Series-Ghana The goal of the AFAWA Finance Series in Ghana was to narrow the financing gap between genders, with a specific focus on women-owned small and medium enterprises (SMES). To achieve this objective, the African Development Bank (AfDB), in partnership with the African Guarantee Fund (AGF) and the Ghana Association of Banks (GAB), worked to enhance access to finance for women entrepreneurs in Ghana.
Over a three-day period, AGF, AfDB, and GAB organized a business event with the purpose of introducing AFAWA and its guarantee mechanism to a select group of financial institutions, key regulators, stakeholders, and women-led SMEs in Ghana. The event delved into ways to mitigate the risks that women- owned SMEs encounter when seeking financial and non-financial support, while also addressing the challenges of accessing credit and highlighting opportunities to create a gender-sensitive economy in Ghana.
