Detection and Adulteration of animal derived materials in commercial Ghee samples

Description:

For the safety and quality of food products, ICAR (Indian Council of Agriculture Research) in collaboration with NRCM verifies the adulteration on different food products. In this project, the aim is to detect the adulteration in commercial ghee samples through molecular techniques. Based on the results from NRCM, ICAR will issue safety and quality ratings.

Responsibilities:

1.Collection of the samples time to time and store them under necessary temperature conditions.

2.Preparation of all necessary reagents for the next level procedure.

3.Isolation of DNA from the Ghee sample.

4.Amplification of extracted DNA through PCR.

5.Performance of Load and Run an Agarose Gel Electrophoresis.

6.Analysis of the results and reporting.

Species Identification from Forensic samples

The aim of this project is to identify the animal species and its sex from different input samples like it’s meat, hair or nails. This information is mainly needed by state police departments for their investigation on knowing if there is any protected animal was killed.

2.Preparation of all necessary reagents for the next level procedure based on the sample type.

Estimation of Oxidation in Emu fat oil

Description:

Emu oil is high in omega-3, omega 6, and omega-9 fatty acids. These helps reduce inflammation, ease muscular pain, and arthritic joint pain. They may also help relieve signs of wrinkles, scars, and blemishes by nourishing the skin cells. The aim of this project is to estimate the Oxidation levels in Emu fat oil, which are used by the Pharmaceutical Industry.

Responsibilities:

1.Extraction of oil from Emu fat using the methods like liquid-liquid, micro-wave, heating.

2.Separation of impurities using solvent extraction.

3.Calculation of oxidation levels using different methods.

Verification of raw materials quality and manufacturing process for PARLE products

Equipment : Hot air Oven, Separatory Funnel, Burettes, Pipettes.

Description:

PARLE is a popular food products company based in INDIA. It owns the famous cookies and biscuit products. The aim of this project is to check the quality of raw materials like all-purpose flour, Sugar, Vanaspati and Milk powder. It also verifies the guidelines for manufacturing process.

Responsibilities:

1.Physical examination of raw materials for their texture, taste, smell, and colour.

2.Sedimentation of raw materials.

3.Calculation of quality parameters like gluten percentage, moisturizer percentage, PV, FFA and unsaturated fatty acids.

4.Supervising the manufacturing process.

5.Examining the final product and supervising the packaging.

6.Providing all the documentation for periodic audits.
