Ability to administer medications within the 6 rights of medication administration, initiate IV access, updating pertinent records to reflect patient’s condition. Ability to provide post-operative care. Perform a variety of clinical procedures not limited to catheter insertion, tracheostomy care, etc. Provide life sustaining measures as necessary. Coordinate health care needs of patients and refer to offsite providers as needed, Completion of vital functions in a timely, secure and proficient manner, despite short staffing. Ability to recognize priorities and adapt to the department's changing environment and needs. Currently training new staff within the medical department. Mentoring them on the principles, policies and regulations governing the medical practice at FCI Jesup. Educate and counsel patients on procedures, medical care and sensitive health issues, including need for follow up, and provide informational literature for patients. Recently involved in the preparation and successful completion of a Joint Commission and Accreditation review.
On an annual basis, the maintenance and upkeep of the Audiometer and related functions are successfully performed. Administer, monitor and plan appropriate tuberculosis screenings for patients on a monthly basis. Implement wound care with clean and sterile techniques when appropriate to an array of various wounds, i.e. wounds caused by MRSA. Educate patients upon preventive health care and implementation of such. Initiation of annual health fairs at all three institutions collaboratively with recreation staff. Innate ability to plan, monitor and provide support with daily laboratory functions. Ability to obtain and prepare a variety of specimens for laboratory analysis; schedule, administer, and interpret results such as glucose, and other tests. Capable of providing care to patients with chronic infectious disease processes, i.e. HIV and Hepatitis. Skilled and able to administer medications and immunizations as necessary to all patient populations. Maintain medical equipment and maintain medical supplies. On a monthly basis, provide assist other disciplines (Unit Managers) within the institution prepare necessary information before an inmate is released back into the community. These forms and documents are known as the Inmate Skill and Development Assessments. These forms ensure a smooth transition back into the community. Coordinated and implemented classes on various disease pathologies, such as Diabetes and Hypertension clinics.
On a daily basis, provides oversight to patients to coordinate plan of care for chronic diseases such as Diabetes, Congestive Heart Failure, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, depression, and hypertension.
