Career Overview

Thank you for reviewing my resume’. I appreciate the opportunity and value your time. I have worked my way up from the very bottom. I obtained my A+ certification and began with Help Desk and User Support. In this role I learned MS Active Directory, DHCP, LDAP. I learned how to work remotely or onsite as needed in order to provide the best support. I maintained user accounts setup and maintenance such as group policy. I learned Active Directory and DHCP and worked my way up. I have a very solid foundation in the fundamentals of PC’s, printers, VoIP and networking. I have installed and supported network equipment including over 1,000 PC’s with dual monitors in several new upgrades and rollouts. I have installed and configured Wireless mesh networks, Ubiquiti, Meraki, Cisco and Zoom (Yealink) VOIP phone systems, LANs, WANs, Fortinet firewalls, PRTG monitoring tools, network monitoring apps such as Putty, Wire Shark, Angry IP, and Packet Tracer. I have used console interfaces and Putty sessions to maintain and performed “some” configuration on Cisco switches and Routers. I have recovered switches and routers using TFTP server, USB drives, and simple copy and paste startup configs. I have updated some iOS versions. I have extensive experience with VLANs and VMs. I have used VM Ware, Virtual Box, Cisco Any Connect, Cisco Webex, MS Teams, Zoom Workspace. I have supported network engineering since March, 2001 with installations and maintenance mostly. I fell in love with CLI and networking having been part of the network and configs at 26 different facilities in the tri-state area. I have approximately five years working with networking as a USA / Network Technician. I have obtained my A+, Net+, and have approximately 20% remaining in my CCNA Network Engineer study course. My CCNA study courses consists of approximately fifty percent real world, hands-on simulation using Packet Tracer and GNS3 where I have configured OSPF, EIGRP, BGP, IS-IS and several other protocols. My mentors have told me that I should apply for positions even if I haven’t obtained my CCNA yet because I just might be qualified now for certain jobs. My current goal is to break out of helpdesk and technician positions. I have many years experience with that. I enjoyed interacting and helping peopIe, but I am ready to advance in my career. I am not an expert by any means, but that is my goal. I would love just the opportunity to work with Network Engineers, earn my CCNA, and work as a Network Engineer. That is my dream job. As a User Support Analyst with Covenant Health, I had the opportunity to work with many Network Engineers and System Administrators. As I grew in my networking skills I became the Network Engineers’ goto guy for any type of support as I was located at head quarters and worked remotely and in the field wherever needed. I want to know everything I can about it and that is why I am pursuing my CCNA. I would love the opportunity to be an entry level network engineer and learn from some of the best. I have used the network diagnostic equipment on the job such as the fluke and NetScout. I really enjoy using CLI in IOS to configure switches and routers! I have many hours of virtual lab experience in Packet Tracer, IT Practice lab in a networking and virtual machine environment. I am studying very hard to obtain my CCNA with an online coach and CCNA course called Flackbox Gold Boot Camp Package which is loaded with Cisco Packet Tracer labs with Neil Anderson, CCIE, which I am practicing with a Cisco network I have available to me at work, and also utilizing Cisco Networking resources. Also, I have my own home lab consisting of a router and four switches. I have worked with lots of Cisco Switch gear such as 2910’s, 2920’s, etc., firewalls, and routers including WPA’s and VSphere virtual machines. I have also worked with HP Procurves . I have worked with IBM AS400 “green screen” daily where I troubleshoot and configure user, hardware, and software. My local workplace network consists of four domains on 12 servers in my data center. We have 24 VM’s on VM Ware as well. My goal is to become a network engineer. I love using CLI to configure switches and routers I am currently being supervised, but I hope to be proficient at it soon. It is very gratifying to make a network function! I love troubleshooting! I have years of customer service and field engineering experience servicing a tri-state area and have used ticketing systems for five years at my current position and many more years in other positions. In 2020 I completed both the CompTIA A+ and Net+ programs in Knoxville, TN at New Horizons Computer Learning Center where I earned certificates from them. I have the privilege to work as a Covenant USA (User Support Analyst) for two years and have learned so much in a hands-on role of support. I was the only USA (User Support Analyst) at the Claiborne location, and this has given me the opportunity to work with network engineers and system admins, even some server techs on the server team. I have used Server Manager for two years. I have used VM Ware / VSphere for two years as well. I have done some patch work on the live network. I had the privilege to work with the networking group and assist in troubleshooting the net, and Networking really piqued my interest in this position. I would like to thank you all for this wonderful opportunity to work in the field that I am so excited about. I worked many years in electrical engineering / R&D and was recently released from my electronic technician position due to lack of components being shipped from China because of the Covid 19 Virus. I have worked in Computers, IT and MS Office for many years in every job I have had but I have never taken the opportunity to do what I genuinely love which is IT and networking especially as I was using my then current skill set to support my family rather than do what I love. I have years of customer service and field engineering experience servicing a tri-state area and have used a ticketing system for two years at my current position and many more years in other positions.

I would like to get into my chosen career choice as quickly as possible and begin learning and actually working in Networking, specifically Network Engineering as my goal.

I have had a very long and successful career in the electrical engineering field but have chosen to pursue what I have always loved, Networking.

At my position with Alcoa Corp. Laboratory, I have personally been awarded a quality certification and recognized for being an integral part of our ISO certification and Process Capability Certification. My department has been recognized for both Safety and Quality. I have been put into a leadership position over others who have more seniority and experience there than myself because, as my supervisor told me, of my experience, quality, hard work and dedication to the job. I have trained more senior lab techs how to be more safe, efficient, and accurate with analysis, data collection, and entry. I have been able to improve processes and procedures and truly enjoy teaching others. I believe we can all learn from one another.

At DeRoyal, Inc. I worked in the Electrical Research and Development Department where I was fortunate to have worked with EE’s, ME’s and PhD’s. I was responsible for installing and maintaining a reverse osmosis H2O system and maintaining equipment and instruments, conducting regulated quality control tests and measurements using micrometer, tensile tester, Digital multimeter, oscilloscope, function generator and other state of the art diagnostic equipment and data entry of findings in MS Excel.

Work Experience

IT USA at Covenant Health for the past 15 months

Electronic Technician, Test Technician, Process Engineering Technician

Control Technology as PLC technician. I utilized USB and serial connections and TCP/IP protocols in order to connect these and other devices to corporate networks in order to enhance automation efficiency. This was a smaller company and we all had to wear many hats. I was involved in the entire process from design, development, to production, installation configuration and troubleshooting. I built, by utilizing surface mount and through hole components, which I solder to the boards as some components must be hand-placed, component level troubleshoot, repair misplaced, tomb-stoned, or incorrect parts. Once the boards are built, I utilize an instrument called AOI that uses imaging technology and laser measurements to grossly inspect and indicate any issues or defects, if any defects are found, I repair the board by removing or replacing any defective components, configure and test approximately 80 products including PLC’s, Power Supplies, Remote Base Controllers, Input and output modules, Thermo controllers, motor controllers, HMI panels, etc… I have learned the manufacturing, testing, repairing, processing, configuring. I do everything in these areas.

To display my skill set as it relates specifically to your electronic technician position I think I perform them all or at least most of them. I design electronic test fixtures in order to test our products, I have written many procedures / SOP’s in order to train junior techs and also log issues in a troubleshooting log in order to refer to and aid in troubleshooting. I have made many revisions to existing procedures in order to improve accuracy and efficiency. I am proficient in component level troubleshooting by utilizing testing equipment schematics and component data sheets /specs. I can remove multi-lead surface mount and through hole components via heat or solder braid and flux. I can solder very small components utilizing a stereoscope or microscope. I have much experience with visual inspection which is responsible for locating a large percentage of issues.

I have designed, troubleshot, repaired, and maintained two thermo control systems in order to control, actively monitor, and log thermocycles by connecting thermocouple inputs and graphing them with specialized software called SoftWorks FastTrack. In the thermocycle chamber I have it programmed to cycle for 3 hrs. at 140 degees F / 60 degrees C and three hours at 33 degrees F / 0.556 degrees C. This is basically a torture test for any electronic product as the result is both expansion and contraction for 24 hrs. We also have a 140 degrees F / 60 degrees C heat soak chamber in order to simulate a hostile working environment. Thermal issues account for many failures. From a Quality Control stand-point it is much better to detect the failure prior to the product being shipped to our customers. Being a smaller company I wear many hats. I am currently performing 3 jobs; Electronic Technician, Test Technician, Process Engineering Technician. As a process engineer I am responsible for setup, repair, and preventive maintenance of all manufacturing and test equipment. This includes everything from software programming and configuration to electronic repairs of circuit boards and wiring to lubrication and cleaning of manufacturing equipment. I pretty much do it all as my supervisor has been promoted to manufacturing director and I am somewhat taking his place while maintaining the responsibilities of the electronic tech and test tech.
