I have been working within the engineering industry for more than 17 years with the start of my career being in the pump and plant hire division of Ian Dickie and Co, a construction equipment manufacturer in South Africa. I was afforded the opportunity to learn from the ground up working in the rental workshop doing machine building, repairs and doing breakdowns on sites as well as the operations aspect of the division. Working as the Assistant to hire manager at Ian Dickie, I gained in-depth knowledge and understanding of what the industry needs and clients expect. This experience paved the way for me to start and run the rental division in the Western and Eastern Cape for Xylem Water Solutions SA. In my time at Xylem Water Solutions I gained knowledge of the engineering aspect of pump selections and logistics as I not only engineered the pipe systems and supplied equipment, but I gained more hands-on experience with regard to set up, installations, breakdowns and maintenance of the equipment. I put in place preventative maintenance plans which reduced the amount of downtime and costs involved as well as did the procurement of spares and consumables which meant we had all the tools we required to be able to keep our systems running all the time. Currently I am working as the General Manager for group in the fields of pump and plant sales, repairs and rental; civil and construction projects supplies; architectural visualisations municipal and mining supplies assisting clients with knowledgeable and efficient service throughout the group.
