All aspects of my work demonstrate my consummate professionalism. My communication skills are excellent - in both English and limited Garden Spanish. I have 15 years of ongoing experience presenting lectures about edible landscapes, drought tolerant and native plants, ornamental flowers, and herb gardens for various garden organizations. I’ve been quoted in many media interviews, including print, radio, and television. My management skills have been honed by years of supervising work crews I am always developing employees skills on the jobsites but showing examples to make sure the crews give high quality service to my satisfaction. I’m highly proficient at interviewing, hiring, training and overseeing employees with the ability to prioritize, multi-task in a upbeat environment. I take pride in managing customer relationships and providing high quality customer service by analyzing the client needs and desires with frequent communication; assessing job sites; creating and implementing landscape designs. Creating proposals, overseeing the design and, installation process. I have a wide base of knowledge in horticultural skills and am well versed in botanical names of trees, shrubs, perennials, substitute lawns, edibles and herbs. I’m very experienced in soil testing, N-P-K and pH, as well as composting and mulching and creating special potting soils. I’m equally proficient with plant propagation, cuttings, seed starting and potting up, (which saved the Huntington Botanical Garden thousands of dollars by propagating plants for herb and flower gardens.) Though I specialize in drought resistant landscaping, I’m also very experienced with lawn-care and irrigation (sprinklers and drip). I’m educated in water-saving techniques; including installing, maintaining and upgrading irrigation. I use and maintain all types of small garden power tools and I am proficient in use of all kinds landscape equipment 2

including tractors. My driving record is excellent. I’m expert in identifying plant diseases and insects; and treat these safety issues with an emphasis on organic and Integrated Pest Management treatment. I hold a Qualified Applicator Certificate (QAC) 2005.

WORK HISTORY

Recently, I worked for a well respected, sustainable landscape company, (FormLA Landscape, www.formlainc.com ) Account Manager/Horticultural Team Leader, supervising 12 men - 4 crews in residence landscape maintenance. I worked intimately with the clients and gardeners to create and maintain sustainable dream gardens. April 18, 2012 to June 15th 2014, I left for family matters.

Experience scheduling coordination with office scheduler of deliveries, associates, sub-contractors, inspections and inventories. Assists the Site Foreman in personnel management and evaluation, employee safety, personnel discipline and may modify the daily schedule based on professional interpretation. Experience budgeting, securing contracts and preparing reports. Complete special projects as assigned by direct management and company owners. Work effectively with outside vendors and contractors. (2011) I installed a residential landscape project on a 42 acre estate in Malibu, CA. It is an all organic, edible, self-sustainable garden - June to December 2011. June 2010 to April 2011, Nursery Manager of Grow Native Nursery, Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden, The leading California Native Gardens for research, teaching and saving rare and endangered plant, on the Grounds of the West Los Angeles VA. I started up the nursery from the ground up, with the assistance of Veterans in transition from hospitalization to learning to go back to work and society. I learn how to drive tractors and organize large construction crews as we tore up old gardens and built a new nursery in a very short time. Then I started up and ran the Retail sales nursery. February 1999 to April 2009 - 10 years, Head Gardener of Perennials, Roses and Herbs at The Huntington Library and Botanical Gardens, San Marino CA. Caretaker of 10 acres, supervising 4 staff and 15 volunteers. Interviewed by newspaper and television. Under the direction of Clair Martin, Curator of Roses and Perennials, taught 6 week classes on herbs to the docents, and gave garden talks with powerpoint slideshows.

1988 to present- Katarina's Landscape Design, Self employed landscape designer, installer, and caretaker. Maintains small to large, private residential properties. Employed many temporary laborers and crew workers.

Summer 1995 - Santa Anita Race Track, Arcadia CA. Landscape design for various areas on the property. 1994 /1995 - Los Angeles Arboretum, Arcadia CA. Part time care of Kallam Perennial Garden, designed by Shirley Keirns, under the direction of Tim Linsley. 1990 to 1993 - Parkway Grill Restaurant, Pasadena CA. Designed, installed and maintained 4,000 square-foot herb and gourmet garden at this four star establishment. Worked closely with the Head Chef

(at that time), Hugo Molina, to introduce unusual edibles, including exotic gourmet edible flowers. We started the trend for culinary use of baby vegetables and edible flowers in California and were extensively interviewed by television and newspapers.

Pasadena Showcase House of Design. I installed landscaping in two show houses, with proceeds benefiting the Pasadena Junior Philharmonic.
