EXPERIENCE HIGHLIGHTS

● Draws blood from patients and/or donors in hospital, blood bank or similar facility for analysis and other medical purposes

● Assembles equipment such as tourniquet, needles, disposable containers for needles, blood collection devices, gauze, cotton, and alcohol on work tray, according to professional requirements for specified tests or procedures

● Verifies and/or records identity of patient and/or donor, and converses with same to allay fear of procedures and concerns

● Applies tourniquet to arm, locates accessible vein, swabs puncture area with antiseptic, and inserts needle into vein to draw blood into collection tube or bag

● Withdraws needle, applies treatment to puncture site, and labels and stores blood container for subsequent processing

● May prick finger and heel sticks to draw blood

● May conduct interviews, take vital signs, and draw / test blood samples to screen donors

● Record patients’ medical history, vital statistics and information such as test results, in medical records

● Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations, keeping the rooms neat and clean

● Interviews patients to obtain medical information and measure vital signs, height, and weight

● Authorizes drug refills and provides prescription information to pharmacies

● Cleans and sterilizes instruments and disposes of contaminated supplies

● Prepares and administers medications, as directed by a physician

● Ushers patients to examination rooms and prepares them for the physician

● Explains to patients treatment procedures, medications, diets, and physicians’ instructions

● Assists physicians in examination and treatment of patients, handing them instruments and materials and/or performing tasks such as administering injections, removing sutures 1 Page
