To Whom It May Concern:
I’ve had the opportunity to serve in the capacity of caring for the smallest and most vulnerable clientele, which has humbled me professionally and personally to know that I am one of many nurses who sacrifice hours, dedication, and tenacity to give safe and high-quality care. Serving others has been at times a challenge because it requires the ego and one’s own perspective to be checked at the door and must be filtered through the eyes of compassion to result in the benefit of the greater good. The muscle created and strengthened has been done through the servitude of over twenty years of nursing. Maternal Child health is my foundation of Nursing. I’m passionate in working with neonates and within the family dynamic as a whole. Working in this setting has taught me how to prioritize imperative needs in the immediate and long term, the art of working efficiently while upholding safety measures, communicating effectively, and the importance of the business of nursing, highlighting the need of detailed documentation for reimbursement and the importance of completing quality improvement projects all to result in a continuum of higher quality of care.
The privilege to serve as a Nurse practitioner will bring another level of opportunity. I anticipate to serve within the underserved and urban communities. The shift of focus from the neonates to within the primary care setting has been a challenge but also a welcomed change. The investment of educating will result in better communities for all. Sincerely,
Tammy Tenny, RN, BSN, RNC-NICU

Personal Statement
I am excited about what the future entails, an opportunity to help within the urban community by giving the tools of practical aid, an increase in accessible healthcare and an opportunity to increase education. When we as a society pour finances into our underserved communities, we are helping it to be strengthened and to flourish. It is my desire to help facilitate an atmosphere of welcomed curiosity, a higher aptitude of learning, patience and hope of positive change in measurable ways.
Providing health care can be a challenge especially when resources are stretched. Nursing in general is multifaceted and we are challenged to use resources effectively to meet the needs of the masses even when resources are lacking. I want to bring simplicity back and highlight the advantage of education, to prevent disease and promote an atmosphere of optimal health. Challenges can present opportunities for learning and openness to creative thinking resulting in the reward of health.
Becoming a Nurse Practitioner will afford the opportunity for patients to have a broader access to health care. Accessible and affordable health care for all is the banner that working within this field, I will strive to facilitate and uphold. Serving as a primary care provider within this capacity for me will be self-fulfilling and honorable. Self-Assessment
Working in the field of nursing can is intellectually challenging and rewarding, but also can be emotionally chaotic and mentally taxing. To know thy own limitations serves as an asset to thyself and your patients. For me, self-evaluation has served as a great a way for me to learn and grow personally and professionally.

Reflecting on the character of my nursing-self is to admit that I have a sound work ethic. I enjoy and am passionate about being a positive influence in the lives of my patients. I want to add positively to their person as a whole so they can in turn serve their families well. I have learned through experience the art of nursing is done through patience. It is important to meet their needs practically first before setting other goals like educating them to the level of disease prevention and promotion becomes more reasonable. Receptivity is imperative for the information to be heard and acted upon. I’ve learned that communication can serve as a gateway or a barrier, so extra care is taken to illicit positive and genuine concern when I interact with all my patients.
Communicating in a tone that is respectful, lighthearted, positive and focused on the task at hand welcomes knowledge exploration and patient partnership of active participation. Communicating was a challenge for me for many years because I would react instead of setting the tone and pace for positive exchange. I’ve learned to be intentional with my interactions, and it has made a positive change in being heard.
