Provided leadership for the licensed nurses and nursing aides on acute care, skilled nursing, long term care, and the dementia units, including employee evaluations and any disciplinary/professional development actions needed. Initially worked as a volunteer, then as a nurse’s aide, I received the Veteran’s Scholarship Award, and became a student nurse technician (SNT) until advancement to BSN/RN in May, 1991. As a member of the surgical staff on Ward 4S, I also covered ICU, telemetry, medical, and geriatric units frequently. I performed a broad range of duties, including the total provision of pre and post-op care for veteran men and women. I was the Unit Educator, and regularly assigned as Charge Nurse. Common surgical interventions performed on this unit included vascular reconstruction, eye surgery, amputations, lobectomies, total knee and hip reconstruction, transurethral resection of prostrates, gastrointestinal reconstruction, cholecystectomies, and reconstructive neoplastic surgery. Wrote policy for patient-controlled analgesia, and trained staff.
