Technology and Digital Experience

Enliven Advisory: Chris joined the boutique consulting and investment banking firm in late 2022 and serves as both the Head of Creative & Investment Readiness and as a Strategic Advisor. Enliven’s clients include startups, scaleups, enterprises and businesses across technology, media, entertainment, FMGC, Social Impact/ESG, sports and more with the firm helping across consulting, capital raising, M&A, international expansion, corporate advisory and more.

Facebook: In 2006, Chris was tasked by the then fledgling social network to integrate video into their platform. He helped create and produce Facebook Diaries, the first-ever hybrid user-generated video/reality TV series that was distributed on Facebook.com, Ziddio.com, Comcast VOD and The Independent Film Channel. The result was the vast adoption and scale of video on Facebook and the launch of the now ubiquitous “Share” button.

Amazon: from 1997 to 2000, Chris ran entertainment business development

for the company. Highlights of his time at Amazon include securing a first-ever online multi-title/multi-year deal with Dreamworks SKG, for Gladiator, Saving Private Ryan, Antz 2 and American Beauty. This resulted in a record-breaking revenue quarter for the company and led to similar deals with all the major studios, networks and record labels.

National Storage: (ASX:NSR) – Chris was engaged as a digital strategy consultant for the Brisbane-based, ASX 200 storage company, helping to create and execute on various digital initiatives and programs including in their sports sponsorship evolution and addition of digital products to support it, their “Locker Room” digital ecosystem, P2P storage initiative and contributed to their overall digital strategy white paper.

Sensis/Found Digital: In 2015 and 2016, Chris served Innovation Specialist for the Melbourne-based iconic publishing and digital services company, working with both internal teams and external top clients advising on innovation strategy and digital execution.

Media, Entertainment and Social Enterprise Experience

University of Oregon School of Journalism and Communications New Media Innovation Lab:

In January 2023, Chris joined as Co-Founder, Co-Director and Entrepreneur-in-Residence to build and launch The SOJC Media Innovation Lab. The Lab is a team of University of Oregon School of Journalism and Communication students, faculty, and consultants who are strategic thinkers, designers, coders, project managers, writers, and visual storytellers who take on bold challenges facing industries, organizations, and start-ups. We invite industry partners to engage our support in tackling critical problems that could redefine their futures.

Participant Media: In 2003, Chris joined with eBay’s Jeff Skoll to help build and run the media company, serving as its Chief Vision Officer through its first slate of movies including: Syriana, North Country, Good Night and Good Luck, Charlie Wilson’s War, Kite Runner and the documentary Murderball collectively which were nominated for 11 Academy Awards. Chris is also proud to have helped identify and work on An Inconvenient Truth with former Vice President, Al Gore which, in addition to winning Academy Awards for Best Documentary and Best Original Song, contributed to Gore’s winning the Nobel Peace Prize.

Greater Outcomes – Chris served as EIR for the company which helps social entrepreneurs build, grow and scale their social enterprises. With Social Enterprise and Impact Investment rapidly moving from the margins to the mainstream, the company has built the shared value superstructure to unleash its greatness. The company’s flagship, Impact Academy (of which Chris was the first Advisor) is an accelerator program and now has over 250 live companies as graduates.

Comcast Cable & Interactive: Chris was charged with sponsorship acquisition,

business development and strategic planning advisory consulting for the U.S.-based MSO giant, helping to form partnerships with large media companies, brands and advertisers as it expanded its offerings from cable to online video and into mobile.

Inveniem: led investment readiness for celebrity memorabilia and collectibles company;

WedgeHR: led investment readiness for video-based HR platform;

Velscope: led investment readiness for dental medical device company;

Author, Writer, Film and Television Experience

Chris writes and creates children’s books that connect technology, learning and children’s charities, thus empowering kids to help kids. His latest title “Dan The Biggest Dump Truck,” narrated by Hugh Jackman, was published in hard cover and eBook by Muddy Boots (a division of Rowman & Littlefield) with proceeds benefiting The Global Poverty Project and World Vision Australia. Previously, he authored and self-published “Sam The Biggest Fire Truck” and “Cowboys & Aliens: The Kids” (which benefits The Starlight Children’s Foundation), both available as interactive iPad Apps in the iTunes store.

As a journalist, television and non-fiction writer, Chris has been published in “The Washington Post,” “The Denver Post,” “Triathlete Magazine;” co-wrote the teleplay for Columbia TriStar’s/USA Network’s hour-drama The Net and wrote the lead chapter in “It’s That Easy: Online Marketing 3.0,” plus a number of blog, podcasts, specialty articles and feature stories.

Teaching Experience

Chris is now part of the University of Oregon’s School of Journalism and Communications where he is the Co-Founder and Co-Director of the New Media Innovation Lab as well a frequent guest lecturer, and Entrepreneur-in-Residence. In Australian he guest lectured at various Universities including: Queensland University of Technology (QUT) in their School of Media, Griffith University and was an English Teacher and Baseball Coach at Colorado Academy.

Personal Background

Born and raised in farm country outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Chris graduated from the University of Denver with double Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and Mass Communications. He received his Master of Fine Arts with honors from The University of Southern California’s School of Professional Writing whilst concurrently pursuing MFA studies in their revered School of Film and Television.

From 2009 to 2022, Chris lived in Brisbane, Australia with his son, Cooper. Where he played A-Grade baseball for the Western Districts Bulldogs Baseball Club served as a Committee Member and active member of the Club. He moved to Eugene, Oregon with his son in October 2022 to support his son’s ambitions to play baseball in the US, is working with Australian companies to enter/expand in the US, with the University of Oregon and with a number of other US-based companies in an Advisory and consultative capacity.
