Personal Philosophy Statement
I am originally from a country where people with mental health problems are highly stigmatized, and depending on the severity of their symptoms they may be cast out into the streets by their family members because of the lack of adequate health care, lack of psychiatrists, and psychiatric nurse practitioners, the lack of knowledge, skills, and adequate psychotherapy and psychopharmacology to care for these people. The fear of being stigmatized can cause people that need mental health care to not seek treatment. Therefore, educating the public about mental health issues is imperative to encourage people with mental health issues to seek treatment. My education from Walden University has prepared me to meet the needs of clients and their families with mental health disorders through education, assessment, psychotherapy, and psychopharmacology.
As a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner, I have the education and knowledge to provide much needed psychiatric evaluation, treatment, and education to clients and their families with mental health disorders. My education at Walden university has prepared me with in-depth experience and knowledge to care for patients with a broad range of mental health disorders. My goal is to set up a tele-health psychiatric mental health clinic to provide follow-up care for clients that were recently discharged from the hospital, making sure that they have their prescriptions filled, and that they are compliant with taking their medications. I will also do a general
wellness check on them such as their sleep pattern, rest, mood, and nutrition. To be able to practice as an independent provider and provide optimal care for my clients that is evidence- based, I will maintain a therapeutic relationship with clients, collaborate with experienced and knowledgeable psychiatrist, nurse practitioners and other clinicians to maintain good clinical practice, and continuing to further my education. My philosophy is to provide the best treatment that is evidence-based for all patients regardless of race, age, socioeconomic status, or sexual orientation.
Self-Assessment
My education at Walden University has provided me with the knowledge and skills to care for clients with a broad range of psychiatric disorders. Also, my preceptors were experienced psychiatrists, psychiatric mental health nurse practitioners, and psychiatric social workers that provided me with the necessary skills and knowledge to assess, diagnosed, and treat clients with mental health disorders. I enjoyed working together with physicians, psychiatrists, nurse practitioners and other clinicians to provide effective care for clients and to meet the demands of the health care system. I possess excellent communications skills and assessment skills. I can accurately assess and diagnose clients so that the appropriate treatment can be implemented.
Seeing a client responds positively to treatment gives me the greatest joy. Working daytime hours in a large hospital setting or in a clinic taking care of children, adolescents and adults is preferably for me. I take my responsibilities as a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner seriously and will uphold the integrity of my profession by practicing according to AANC guidelines and being familiar with state and federal regulations to avoid ethical and legal issues.
