Logistics Assistant, United Nations (UN) Peacekeeping Mission in Mali (MINUSMA)– Bamako, Mali

Jul 2019 – Nov 2022

Accomplishments

As the first staff member hired for the new department supporting external military logistics, I ensured the successful start-up of the department, creating a database to document all requests for material support (fuel, oil, lubricants and rations) to monitor the amounts requested and retrieved. The database provided accurate data for cost recovery purposes and to prepare daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.

I initiated weekly internal department meetings to monitor and report on all activities in the department and ensure effective communication and information sharing among team members.

I provided statistics and drafted language for the Organization’s reports on support for external military logistics for the UN Security Council and European Union.

I created a weekly reports template that was used by staff members through the country to verify the stock of military food items for military within the Organization. My template included amount of stock in each location, type of meals (e.g. Halal, vegetarian), expiration dates, etc. to ensure minimum reserves for over 10,000 military personnel and UN regional offices and camps, and that the rations were consumed before expiration to limit waste.

I managed 4 international staff and 5 local staff within the section, monitoring and preparing weekly reports for all staff activities.

Responsibilities

Coordinated external military partners’ collection of goods across the Organization by facilitating required approvals from different departments and followed up after collection with relevant departments for Receiving and Inspection (R&I) Reports, verification of invoices against R&I reports, cost recovery, etc.

Managed and maintained records of all external military partners’ requests to transport goods and people by land and air, and coordinated with relevant departments (Aviation, MOVCON, Transport/Dispatch) on cost estimates, schedules, cost recovery, etc.

Regularly reviewed external military partners’ cost estimates of goods for input into narrative and budget reports and presentations to other departments, the Organization’s Headquarters in NY, and financial partners (e.g., European Union).

Conducted inspections with R&I section for all military rations received and validated the delivery notes in UMOJA /ERMS (SAP).

Logistics Assistant, Movement Control, MINUSMA – Gao, Mali Feb 2014 – Jun 2018

Accomplishments

As the assistant to the Movement Control (MOVCON) Team Leader and the Officer in Charge of MOVCON in the Team Leader’s absence, I initiated the following procedures and processes to enable the effective execution of MOVCON’s logistics operations: separating the arrival and departure areas at the Gao International Airport to prevent confusion and terminal congestion; requesting and receiving seating for passengers; putting in place security measures to control vehicles’ access to the tarmac and persons’ access to the terminal; and, requesting and receiving a container to store cargo at the airport.

I synchronized the transportation needs of government officials, non-governmental organizations and humanitarian organizations.

I supervised 15 staff members and contractors, including ensuring the quality of their work and providing training on Airside Awareness.

Responsibilities

Executed the logistics plans for the timely and efficient deployment/movement of more than 6,000 peacekeepers and civilian personnel, equipment/materiel, and assets throughout the northern regions of Gao, Kidal, and Menaka in Mali, including serving as a flight monitor to escort contingents arriving from other countries.

Selected by Department Chief to travel internationally to serve as movement coordinator for almost 1,000 peacekeepers and police rotating into/out of the country.

Gathered information from different sources, including automated information systems to keep track of equipment, personnel, and supplies, as they move throughout the system, including drafting weekly reports for Mission leadership.

Entered, maintained, and monitored data in the Field Support Suite system (workflow application based on .net platform), creating reports on the movement of cargo and passengers, as well as the surface transport of contingents’ materiel/equipment and assets.
