UNIVERSITY PROJECTS

Custom Tensile Tester – Mechanical Lab Design Group Project

● Designed and built a custom tensile tester to analyze the mechanical properties of 3D printing filaments, including stress, strain, and modulus of elasticity.

● Integrated mechanical engineering principles with electronic components to create a programmable testing apparatus.

● Successfully measured material properties by conducting tensile tests on filaments and analyzing the resulting stress-strain curves for modulus of elasticity calculations. Utilized Excel for data analysis.

Wing Analysis - Introduction to Aerostructures Group Project

● Performed a comprehensive strength analysis of a specialized wing design under varying flight conditions.

● Utilized mechanical engineering principles and relevant equations to calculate the forces acting on the wing at different altitudes (0m, 5,000m, 10,000m).

● Analyzed the wing's structural integrity by calculating shear forces, moments, shear flow in each stringer, and normal stresses in each boom. Employed material properties of Aluminum for accurate analysis.

Earth-Jupiter Transfer Trajectory - Orbital Mechanics Group Project Lead

● Designed a spacecraft trajectory from Earth to Jupiter using Hohmann transfer orbit principles in MATLAB.

● Applied orbital mechanics concepts to determine critical factors for the interplanetary transfer, including total departure velocity, eccentricity, orbital period, and semi-major axis.

● Leveraged mathematical equations within MATLAB to calculate these crucial trajectory parameters.

Functional Hydropower Dam Model - Fluid Mechanics Group Project Lead

● Designed and built a functional dam model to estimate the potential power generation from water reservoirs with varying configurations.

● Integrated mechanical engineering principles to develop a turbine system incorporating a velocity encoder for precise water flow measurement.

● Through experimentation with reservoir heights (3 different levels) and exit diameters, determined the optimal configuration for maximizing power generation. Results indicated the greatest water flow and hydraulic power achieved with the highest reservoir level and smallest exit diameter.

Robotic Arm - Mechatronic Systems Group Project Lead

● Designed and programmed a robotic arm to execute a predefined sequence of movements culminating in lifting a ball to a designated target.

● Utilized MATLAB to analyze the arm's kinematic properties, including range of motion, and determine optimal motor angles for precise movement.

● Developed a control program to achieve the desired sequence with smooth transitions between motor positions and adherence to a specific time constraint. Residential Geothermal Heating - Heat Transfer Group Project

● Designed an in-floor radiant heating system utilizing geothermal energy for a specific house model.

● Applied mechanical engineering principles to analyze heat transfer characteristics. This included researching material properties of various house components and utilizing MATLAB to calculate the temperature variations induced by the system.

● Developed a virtual model of the system within SOLIDWORKS to assess heat transfer rates throughout the house. Additionally, employed Ansys simulation software to visualize the resulting thermal distribution, ensuring optimal comfort and efficiency. Sensor Calibration – Mechanical Lab Design Group

● Performed calibrations on various electronic sensors, including cantilever beams, potentiometers, thermistors, and barometers, to ensure accurate data acquisition.

● Collaborated in lab groups to gain proficiency in wiring and programming diverse sensor types for integration with Arduino microcontrollers.

● Developed a strong foundation in working with electronic sensors and their implementation within Arduino, enhancing data collection capabilities. Material Research – Structure & Properties of Material Project

● Conducted a comprehensive review of the discovery, physical properties, and applications of titanium.

Exercise Machine Innovation – Design & Analysis of Machine Components Group Project

● Identified and analyzed functional flaws in an existing exercise machine to develop innovative design solutions.

● Utilized SOLIDWORKS to create detailed models of key components, enabling comprehensive force analysis and stress evaluation.

● Leveraged the analysis to design a novel system of parts aimed at preventing future breakdowns and enhancing overall machine durability. Concept Analysis – Technical Writing and Concepts & Methods group projects

● Successfully researched and developed functional ideas that effectively countered assigned issues, resulting in positive outcomes.

● Implemented research findings to create actionable solutions that resolved residential issues. Custom Model Boat – Introduction to STEM Group Project

● Designed and constructed a functional small model boat, applying principles of buoyancy, stability, and propulsion.

OCCUPATIONAL EXPERIENCES

Southern Homes Internship – 2022-2023

● Utilized AutoCAD to create and revise construction plans, ensuring adherence to Florida Building Code standards.

● Streamlined project efficiency by implementing time-saving modifications to plans and reorganizing layers for user-friendly navigation.

● Conducted material cost estimations to support project budgeting and feasibility analysis. Palm Beach Art, Antique, and Design Showroom Maintenance Worker – 2020-2021

● Exhibited art handling expertise by assembling display exhibits and carefully packaging and displaying delicate art pieces.

● Supported the execution of multiple exhibitions, ensuring a high-quality presentation for patrons.
