1. Patient medical chart review to confirm that the doctor’s orders and procedure consent is accurate.

Review and flag any abnormal preoperative labs or other health information pertinent to undergoing

anesthesia as well as the procedure.

2. Confirmation of correct patient, correct surgeon, correct procedure, and witnessing the patient sign

their consent

3. Confirm with patient where the operative site will be and witness the Surgeon mark the correct surgical

site.

4. Assessment of patient for any current issues that may complicate the procedure

7. EKG

8. 98-99% accuracy with peripheral IV insertion

9. Administration of any preoperative medication ordered by the doctor.

10. Educating patients regarding procedures and discharge plans for their care at home.

11. Communication with the interdisciplinary team regarding patient concerns, abnormal labs, patient

assessments not within normal limits, and any other concerns.

12. Urine testing for pregnancy in childbearing age woman

13. Assisting anesthesia preform peripheral nerve block procedures and ensuring a proper time-out is

done before the Anesthesiologist starts

14. Anticipating and assisting with individual doctors needs

15. Maintaining a clean fully stocked unit

16. Opening and closing preoperative unit

17. Preoperative patient phone calls to confirm procedure start time, pertinent medical history,

review of patient’s medications, confirmation of a responsible adult caregiver available for 24 hours

after discharge. Any necessary education regarding medications that should/shouldn’t be taken before

surgery. Reassuring nervous patients and answering questions they may have.
