During my high school career, I completed an internship with a Physician Assistant at Valley Orthopaedic Specialists in Shelton, CT. I also volunteered as a CCD teacher at our lady of Fatima in Waterbury, CT as well as a dance coordinator for the Portuguese Folklore group, Culturas de Portugal in Waterbury, CT. I was in the top 5 percentile of my class and graduated 8 out of 320 and my overall GPA was 4.3.

I completed a biology major and a double minor in chemistry and Spanish at Sacred Heart University. I was employed at Yale New Haven Hospital as well as completed supervised research in a laboratory setting in which the findings were published in a reputable scientific journal. My responsibilities as a laboratory associate include assisting the medical and laboratory technicians by centrifuging the specimens collected from blood draws or other body fluid collections and placing them on the proper machinery for analysis.

My responsibilities as a stem cell technologist include cryopreserving stem cells from allogenic and autologous donors for transplant following standard operating procedures and using good manufacturing practices as well as aseptic technique. My responsibilities also include, switching liquid nitrogen tanks necessary for cryogenic storage freezers, as well as creating patient files and updating files with important patient information. Furthermore, as a stem cell technologist I must process samples such as Human Leukocyte Antigen (HLA) which is necessary to match transplant recipients to compatible donors a well as process Transplant Transmission Disease samples prior to cryopreservation and update necessary healthcare software such as EPIC and Biotherapies Lab. Moreover, my responsibilities include preparing stem cells post cryopreservation for infusion transplant and monitoring and reporting engraftment data post infusion.

I was part of a molecular biology research team in which the hindbrain defects caused by Di-n-Butyl Phthalate during embryonic development of zebrafish was investigated. Our work was published in the Journal of Neurotoxicology and Tetralogy and was presented at the Eastern Colleges Science Conference as well as the Academic Festival at Sacred Heart University.
