Work Experience
Trane Supply, Chattanooga Store Manager April 2022 – May 2023
For the year of 2022, I had the pleasure of leading an amazing team to success in Chattanooga, TN. After only 3 quarters of the year, our team managed to hit the annual store budget for 2022, ultimately finishing the year at 135% of our target. Throughout the year, we also maintained a tier 1 rating on our store operations, hitting 12 out of 12 months for all gradable metrics. The transition into leadership was not easy considering this was a different store from the one I previously worked at. When I arrived, we had 3 warehouse techs that were still temporary employees, 1 person just learning the counter, and 2 veterans. It did not help that we were also given a new program to use during peak season. With all of this training to be done and an inventory no store would be proud of, my game plan was to concentrate my talents in a way that would win the trust of my teammates so that I could lead them more effectively. I decided the best way to win trust was to give it, so I allowed my team to develop in their new roles by giving them space to teach other, all while I concentrated my talents into plugging up major holes at the store. Once trained, I placed each person in a position that demanded their best talents so that each person knew how essential their contribution was to the goal. Even explaining how our weaknesses as teammates are a part of what comes with our contribution was a crucial part for our morale. It was essential to me that they had what they needed to succeed, so if it was grabbing them lunch while busy, hitting the floor out in the warehouse, or working late hours, we made sure it got done. Our vision totally paid off as 2 of the temps made it on fulltime, and the person learning the counter fully developed to the point of independence. I was then able to delegate more, which freed me up to handle more of the manager’s duties more efficiently. On top of supporting the team, I was responsible for weekly reports, monthly reports, employee hours, HR inquiries, interpersonal relationships, inter-department relations, monthly store meetings, 1 on 1s, team morale, outstanding invoices, bills, property upkeep, finding lost inventory, and safety compliance. During this period, I was able to keep pace with a national one million dollar account in CoreCivic to help support the team with sales as well. Together, we have revamped the warehouse to avoid safety concerns, but also to create a more efficient environment. I am proud of our team and what we have accomplished thus far considering the obstacles in our way.
Trane Supply, TX Counter Sales Associate May 2019 – April 2022
Over the span of 4 years, I have traveled with Trane all over Texas and Tennessee. During this journey, I gained so much appreciation for different styles of leadership, ways of operation, and different store layouts. I believe my exposure to these differences have given me a unique perspective regarding management, because although I respect tradition, I am now unafraid of changes. My experiences at different stores have forced me to take up new challenges and to learn tasks that I may have never taken up myself had I not been stretched to do so. At the counter, I exhibited customer sales by phone, emails, text, and walk-in traffic, as well as all other duties related to the counter such as credits, billing, quotes, inventory, warranties, follow-ups, and tracking. My commitment resulted in 2 straight years of at least $1 million in annual billing for each of the stores I worked at. I have also had the pleasure of becoming familiar with all warehouse duties, such as cycle counts, receiving pallets, inventory restocking, ship-outs, and any forklift/clamp related duties. Doing my best in the warehouse has factored me in as a key contributor towards achieving tier 1 inventory at each of the stores I’ve worked with. Also, thanks to the willingness of some store managers to take me under their wing, I was accustomed to the daily tasks and practices of several store leads by shadowing them during their activities. This ranges from conflict, RMX relationships, interviewing potential associates and potential vendors, scheduling meetings with contractors, salesmen, and service technicians about specific strategies to combat problems within the workplace, and taking careful watch of every metric the store is measured by, such as open POs, open transfers, aged orders, aged pick tickets, aging invoices, as well as other tasks including Gensuite evaluations, OSMI reduction, material planning, PCARD purchases, mixed reports, P&L investigations, bill payments, and inspecting the store for safety compliance. Thanks to Trane’s willingness to develop associates, I even worked all 3 levels of store operation for each store in the district at least once. Whether it was a store lead who was out and needed their scorecard taken care of, a shortage in the warehouse that needed to be filled, an inventory that needed to be counted, or a new prospect at the counter that needed to be trained, I was able to serve as a reinforcement for my Retail Operations leader. Aside from the safety protocols and expense reports I would need to learn as a result of embarking these challenges, being available for them has grown me in more ways than I can count. I have gained confidence when facing the unknown and I have created a network of friends across the region I will never forget. Each new personality, every other store, I am always taught something new, so that even with the HVAC experience I’ve obtained through Thermal Technologies, I am humbled to know how much there is to learn in this industry both inside and outside of Trane.
Teen Challenge, TX Staff Counselor August 2018 – May 2019
I would assist in the counseling of recovering drug addicts, most of whom were homeless, all with emotional problems that they avoided confronting. I would encourage them to see these issues in a healthy manner by noticing the positive angle with every encounter, helping them gain confidence in accepting every challenge they have faced in this life as a blessing. I would reinforce self-discipline by holding them to routine standards and tracking progress in their mental and spiritual growth. I was responsible for administering prescribed drugs to the students of the program and transporting them to events, stores, and church services. I was responsible for knowing the students deeply enough without judgement so as to love them as they were. Since the program launched in June, 2 students have graduated the program, while 7 others are striving for the same goal. Some stay to graduate, some grab only what they have felt they needed to learn for a time, but in all circumstances, I am able to pour into these people and watch their joy emerge, forming an endeavor I gain great satisfaction from.
Thermal Technologies, TX Technician Assistant June 2015 – July 2018
As a Technician Assistant, I am faced with the daily tasks of refrigeration. Duties included troubleshooting refrigerated air conditioning units, manufacturing sheet metal ducts, and installing swamp coolers, refrigeration condensers, coils, and furnaces.
Wyndham El Paso Airport, TX Front Desk/PBX June 2014 – June 2015
As a Front Desk agent at the Wyndham El Paso Airport hotel, duties included customer service in regards to complaints, issues, and suggestions, as well as understanding the process of checking in and checking out guests as mandated by hotel management, working cashier, making reservations, and learning the overall Opera operating system utilized throughout the property. Computing skills were vital during busy days, as tasks needed to be performed quickly, while still attending to concerns over the phone and at the desk.
Hawthorn Inn & Suites, TX Front Desk /Bellman March 2011 – March 2013
At the Hawthorn Inn & Suites, I obtained a multi-tasking position and was expected to perform these tasks both efficiently and in a timely fashion. As both a Front Desk representative and a bellman, I dealt with customers on and off the phone, performed check-ins, check outs, and created reservations. Some of our guests included future members of the Armed Forces. Because of this, I had to familiarize myself with the check-in criteria from the Military Entrance Processing Command. As a bellman, multiple duties were standardized. These duties varied from driving the shuttle van, setting up banquets, assisting housekeeping, and executing maintenance tasks during the later hours.
