RESEARCH EXPERIENCE
Binghamton University
Graduate Student
Biology Department
ITC Complex
Jeffery Schertzer
August 2021 to May 2022
Examined the role of outer membrane-vesicles in drug delivery and biofilm development in Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Also, examined the roll of the molecule PQS on the development of outer-membrane vesicles in Pseudomonas and other gram-negative bacteria.
Graduate Student
Biology Department
Mendel Science Center, Lab G13
Villanova University
James W. Wilson, Ph.D.
August 2018-May 2021
Cloned the pdu operon which encodes for the PDU Microcompartment that breaks down the sugar 1,2-PD in different Salmonella enterica Serovar and transferred it to other gram-negative bacteria. Gram-negatives containing the operon were examined for their ability to produce functional PDU MCPs and utilize 1,2-PD.
Undergraduate Lab Assistant
Temple University
Lewis Katz School of Medicine
Kresge Hall, Room 505
Bettina Buttaro, Ph.D.
December 2016-May 2018
Examined the effects of the bacterial amyloid curli on biofilm rigidity Salmonella enterica Typhimurium. Also, examined biofilm dynamics in Enterococcus faecalis and Streptococcus mutants to help understand genetic transfer in the gut microbiome.
PUBLISHED WORKS
The Journal of Bacteriology: Development of a new bead movement based computational framework shows bacterial amyloid curli reduces bead mobility in biofilms. Published in August 2020.
