High school math position where I can make a positive contribution/impact to students in Metropolitan Detroit.

SUMMARY OF QUALIFICATIONS

Certified (2016 - 2021) and highly qualified to teach mathematics, social studies and physics in secondary schools. (Scored 297 out of 300 on the MTTC Secondary Mathematics Test in 2006.) (Major in physics from Oakland University. Major in social studies through various schools.)

Eighteen years of experience teaching secondary mathematics. Six years teaching physics. One and a half years teaching world history.

Enjoys teaching and coaching young people and, daily, taking them to the next level. Motivated to help students and athletes accomplish more than they think they can. Believes in doing one’s best always. Does not believe in settling for average or mediocrity. (81-7-1 W-L-T record coaching swimming and diving, football, and softball.)

Has developed a knack, a desire, a necessity to develop each lesson from the simplest understandable basics, and go on to explain complicated mathematical concepts in an easily understandable manner.

2023 Spring/summer Teacher of physical science, biology and algebra I for Holy Cross Services at Mcgivney High School and Queen of Angels High School in Saginaw.

(2019 (January) – 2021) Teacher of algebra I and II, geometry, and pre-algebra at Southgate Asher Alternative High School in Southgate.

(2016 – 2017) Teacher of precalculus, geometry and algebra I at Cass Tech High School in Detroit. (Because of ORS restrictions, I was only allowed to teach about 7/8 of the year.)

(2015 – 2017) Substitute teacher, sometimes permanently and sometimes day-by-day, in Detroit Public Schools.

(2003 – 2012) Teacher of algebra III & IV, probability and statistics, geometry, Carnegie lab for geometry, chemistry, earth science, English I and II (special education), and world history in Detroit Public Schools.

(1973 – 1979) Teacher of high school precalculus, 11th grade algebra, physics, chemistry, and 9th grade general math at Onaway High School, Onaway, Michigan. Assistant basketball coach, ski club advisor, director of the senior play.

EDUCATION

79 credits of post-grad courses in education, mathematics, biology, chemistry, history, and environmental conservation at a few Michigan and Wisconsin universities. 3.9 GPA

Teacher certification at Oakland University with a major in physics and a minor in social studies (getting the minor later in 2008). A minor in math added at Northern Michigan University.

B.S. mechanical engineering at Oakland University, Rochester, Michigan, 1964 – 1968. 3.1 GPA Lettered in swimming and diving. Competed in soccer.

Graduated 5th in a class of 525 at Saginaw High School, Saginaw, Michigan, 1961 – 1964. 3.97 GPA Captain of swimming team, ran cross-country, exchange student to Finland.

PERSONAL

Interests: piano, tennis, rollerblading, swimming (laps), hiking, reading non-fiction, especially world history.
