As a Safety Manager, my goal is to promote a zero-injury safety culture throughout the company and job sites by identifying hazards, establishing protective measures, and increasing safety awareness on the job sites so that every worker ends their workday in the same health as they began it because even just one injury is too many. As a Safety Manager, I believe a person is only as good as their training. With that, Training is the most important safety tool to promote an excellent safety program and a zero-injury workplace. SAFETY MANAGER
Harris Mid-Atlantic Company (Upper Marlboro, MD)
Besides the everyday Job Duties of a Safety Manager, a text from a Steamfitter Foreman sent me after I left this company:
" Glenn, I would like to thank you for everything you've done to turn our safety program around. You and you alone have changed the whole entire eyes of safety in this company! Our employees now know safety is a trusted asset for them, as I do as well. Instead of our employees running and hiding from safety, they now come to safety, ask questions, and are involved. You have made safety approachable and a trusted asset to these workers, and I truly thank you."
• This was my Goal. Safety wasn't approachable or a trusted asset on our job sites. Our Safety department had the usual Hated & Feared relationship with our workers.
• After explaining to our site Foreman my plans to make safety a trusted and approachable asset to our employees, I put my plan in place. This plan didn't cost a penny and really was simple.
• By doing this, I built a great reputation and trust with our employees, greatly reducing our safety violations and injuries and increasing our workers’ morale and trust in Safety.
• I had our employees involved and coming to Safety to report concerns and asking questions because they now realized Safety was a good asset to have and Safety Cared about each and every one of them on a personal level. SAFETY OFFICER (PROMOTION) / CDL TRUCK DRIVER/WAREHOUSE COORDINATOR W.E. Bowers (Beltsville, MD)
07/2018 - 10/2022
At Bowers, I wore many hats. I was hired to run their Sheetmetal warehouse in Sterling, Va., taking care of their trucking division and being a backup CDL truck driver when needed.
• While working in their warehouse, I categorized, organized, and inventoried all their job site material and hardware. I was also in charge of ordering materials and hardware for their job sites, keeping and maintaining the logs of what was in our warehouse and on the job sites.
• I was also in charge of the daily trucking schedule for our truck drivers. After one year, I was then promoted to Safety Officer/Coordinator. At that time, I began obtaining my Safety Certifications. I continued working for the safety department at Bowers until Harris company reached out to me and offered me a Safety Management position with them. I accepted their offer on 10/17/2022 and left Bowers company at that time. Professional Education/Training/Certifications
