PERSISTENCE OF FALSE YAM LEAF (Icacina senegalensis) EXTRACT ON COWPEA GRAINS FOR THE CONTROL OF THE SEED BEETLE (Callosobruchus maculatus). The study focuses on plant-derived alternatives to synthetic insecticides for controlling the cowpea bruchid Callosobruchus maculatus in stored cowpea grains in sub-Saharan Africa. Aqueous false yam leaf extracts, combined with 8ml of the extract and 0.08ml of chlorpyrifos and betallic, show the highest effectiveness, resulting in 15-100% mortality and effective inhibition of oviposition and adult emergence. Statistical tools such as SPSS and Genstat are employed to enhance the project's goal of improving farmers' livelihoods by increasing the shelf life of stored cowpea grains while safeguarding human health.
