Managed a group of three QA engineers testing two email archiving products that run under Exchange and Lotus Notes on Windows, AIX, AS400, Solaris, and Linux. Managed and oversaw all CPE testing functions including test plan creation for new features and personally tested problematic areas of the product.

• Scheduled and prioritized all tests for the Continuing Product Engineering group.

• Performed verification of all escalation hot fixes and patches, and validated all product enhancements.

• Rewrote existing test plans as part of an ongoing effort to improve regression capability as well as to make the modified test plans easy for users not familiar with the product to execute.

• Performed system validation along with the group on patches and a subset of this testing for hot fixes.

• Personally tested complex areas of the product such as the message ID algorithm, mail client\web client search capabilities, and messaging product\storage product compatibility.

• Created a library of VMware images (environments), documentation on how to create these VMware environments, and Access databases used by the development, test, and automation functions to decrease testing cycles.

Quality Assurance Manager

Managed, trained, and developed four QA Engineers testing data storage products under Windows NT, 2000, and 2003, using both direct attached storage and NAS devices.

• Implemented a process of creating high level testing guidelines from functional specifications then after gathering input from development, creating step-by-step, detailed test plans. Test plans implemented a repeatable process for testing the product, established standardized datasets, served as training material, were in a format that matched the Test Director layout making importation into that product easy, and provided a framework for automation to be introduced. Test plans also included sections for recording the times of all operations. Following ship issues reported from the field were either rolled into existing test plans or were incorporated into new test plans. This approach dramatically improved the quality of the ArchiveXtender product over the course of more than four years as only one or two issues from the field a month got escalated to development.

• Test Director administrator for the Nashua, Rockville, and India offices responsible for putting test plans into the database, setting up users and groups, providing guidance regarding how, why, and what user defined fields should be created, creating projects for products and responding to and resolving issues such as access and functionality problems.

• Established an India QA department, recruited and staffed QA engineer positions based on skillset match/personal interviews. Traveled to India ensuring the QA lab was laid out efficiently and that the training provided would allow testing to proceed quickly so that the testing cycle for the ArchiveXtender product could be reduced and this location could participate in resolving customer issues for the DX product.

• Created monthly and weekly status reports regarding the testing, progress against the schedule, and known or anticipated risks to the schedule for use by senior management and functional departments.

• Partnered with the technical support department and both the Japanese and German offices to respond quickly to customer software issues which required in-depth, specialized testing that these departments had neither the available capacity nor the expertise to provide.
