Addiction Diversity and Similarities: Addiction Stereotypes and how they affect treatment. Training was to help the practitioner to understand foundation of modern day addictions treatment, as well as the myths and misconceptions that often continue to plague or delay treatment. To recognize how negative stereotyping continues to impact treatment & what can be done to minimize or eliminate stereotyping of addicts completely. Some of the applied concepts reviewed are: utilizing the Jellinek Curve when conducting progression assessment, strategies and methods to overcome family and friends’ mistaken beliefs about the addicts and addiction, and screening methods that are sensitive to the cultural stereotypes and bias.
