Past Job Experience

Group Counselor at Camps ‘R’ Us

*** ******** Avenue East Rockaway, 11518 New York

- From June 26th, 2023 to August 18th, 2023

- I was the main caregiver and overseer for grades 3 and 4 at my camp. I was responsible for being a respectable role model that would provide protection, compassion, and assistance. I engaged directly with 20 children alongside with my two coworkers, another group counselor and a junior counselor whom all three of us were supervised by our group leader. I made sure to keep our group on schedule including arriving and departing from each activity station in a safe and timely manner. The children’s safety was my top priority as it was necessary in order to ensure their summer camp experience would be nurturing and fun. Occasionally I worked overtime where I would care for the children who were dropped off before camp hours or picked up after camp hours. I entertained and provided them company as well as reassurance in the event of anxiety or homesickness.

Extracurriculars and Internships

- Musical Theater: I have been an avid member of my school’s drama program since my sophomore year. I was a part of three productions, two of which I was cast as lead roles. I played Madame in “Rodger and Hammerstein’s Cinderella”, Taylor in “The Play That Goes Wrong”, and a mother in the ensemble of “Fiddler on the Roof”. I was also recently cast as Matthews in our upcoming production of “Elf the Musical” which will be performed this December. In musical theater I learned many elements of Broadway theater and acting, including but not limited to, dance, stage presence, stage acting, and delivering lines.

- Black Culture Club: I am the vice president of this club that was founded by me and a close friend Jordan Norris who is the president of this club. Here we have created a safe space for all Black students at our school where they can feel comfortable to share their experiences and challenges. We also discuss Black art, ethnicities, media, languages, politics, and music.

- Chamber Choir: I sing alto for school events and school masses. I also sing for both winter and spring concerts. I recently performed at a 9/11 memorial service where we sang God Bless America.

- Volunteer Work: When I’m free, I volunteer at a local cat shelter called All About Cats. Most of my work includes socializing the cats to help bring them out of their shells so they can be prime candidates for adoption. Occasionally I perform remedial tasks such as feeding and cleaning.
