ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Installs, maintains and repairs master fire alarm systems. Maintains the
electronic control consoles located at each Base Fire Alarm Headquarters
and is responsible for the adjustment and repair of all master alarm boxes,
associated underground cables, master circuits, and back up recording
systems. Analyzes the operations of all modular components and adjusts
or repair as necessary to maintain fire alarm monitoring and transmitting
equipment. Modifies system and subsystem in electronic panels to adapt
internal circuitry to system requirements. Repair panels by isolating
defective electronic components and repair or replacing as necessary.
Installs, adjusts, times and cleans master boxes; rewires and rebuilds as
necessary and wires and connects to building auxiliary circuits and base
master circuits. Installs adjusts and repairs alarm auxiliary, fire bells, heat
detectors, sprinkler switches, smoke detectors, master circuits and auxiliary
circuits and uses volt/ohm meter, or other cable fault locating equipment
to isolate troubles and makes repairs. Pumps manholes, uses shovel and
pick, rod ducts and pulls and reconnects cables. Must have a basic
working knowledge of electronic theory and principles. Must be able to
read and understand circuit diagrams, cable route prints, lines route maps
and overlays. Maintains master fire alarm circuit prints by making up
changes or additions. Must be able to troubleshoot and diagnose
non-functional or malfunctioning alarm systems and consoles, isolate any
defective electronic components using meters, probes and other
electrical/electronic test equipment, and repair or replace defective
circuitry and/or components. Must be able to compute voltage,
amperage, resistance and capacitance factors of printed circuits and
master alarm circuit components. Must have an understanding of the
operation of solid state devices, printed circuit boards, transistors, diodes
and resistors used within fire alarm systems.
Receive work assignments in the form of written or oral work orders and
instructions. Responsible for selecting the proper material, tools and
techniques to complete the work in a safe and efficient manner and in
accordance with applicable standards. Responsible for informing the
supervisor if any planned work deviates from normal trade practice. Works
with minimal supervision.
