1. Protection Engineer – North (ESCOM LTD 2016 to present) Responsibilities:

Producing monthly, weekly and other reports as required for the section and for the organization and the regulatory authority

Producing and conducting maintenance and fault clearing programs in the region. Diagnosing malfunctioning systems, equipment, electrical parts and fault clearing on all protection equipment on both transmission and distribution networks

Installing, wiring, testing and commissioning of Power Transformers, Voltage Transformers, Current Transformers, Protection Panels, Protection Relays, Automatic re-closers, Ring Main Units, 11KV Boards and all protection equipment on the network

Designing Protection and other system equipment circuit modifications to suit specific needs on the system

Supervising, monitoring, inspecting and general management of Protection (and Electrical engineering related) projects done by contractors. Approving of works done by contractors

Attending to site meetings, project progress/evaluation meetings, Factory acceptance Tests

Key involvements & achievements:

Currently a team member for the development of a Distribution code for Malawi – 2023 to Present

Tariff preparation exercise Transmission Licensee team for the year 2022 – 2026

-Development of the Transmission Licensee business plan for 2022 – 2026 period

-Development of the Protection Capex and Opex budgets for the period 2022 – 2026

-Development of Transmission Business Licensee KPI’s for the period 2022 – 2026

ESCOM’s team leader of the Protection relay coordination (using DiGsilent PowerFactory tool) exercise for both Transmission and Distribution licensee’s

-Production of new protection settings on all Protection relays on the network

-Upgrading of protection settings in line with network expansion and configurations

Completed the Malawi Board of Engineers assessment program, awaiting for the final presentation into being a registered Engineer under the board

Obtained a Malawi Energy Regulator Authority High Voltage permit class A in the year 2020

2. Ass. Protection Engineer - Central and North (ESCOM LTD October 2014 – October 2016)

A good understanding of ABB, NR, MICOM Studio, Easergy and other Protection relay software’s
