RESEARCH
“Evaluation of Peripartum Cardiomyopathy Prevalence Rate in Patients Admitted to Ariana Hospital, Kabul City in 2016”
Abstract Introduction: Cardiomyopathy is a cardiac muscle disorder that accounts for 5-10% of heart failure cases. The term cardiomyopathy is used when the heart function is not due to an elevated osteochondrosis or severe hypertension. The prevalence of cardiac patients in Ariana Hospital was 1000, of which 100 had peripartum cardiomyopathy.
Methods: The research, which was conducted during the six months of 2016, was a cross-sectional and descriptive study. The questionnaire was collected and analyzed on 100 patients with peripartum cardiomyopathy in 2016.
Results: The results of this study are the risk factors and contributing factors of this cardiomyopathy. Most of the risk factors are high age, high blood pressure during pregnancy, multiple pregnancies, and malnutrition. The majority of patients had a 3-4 parity, accounting for 45 patients or 45%. Patients who had twins accounted for 5 patients or 5%. Most of our patients had normal nutrition, accounting for 60% of the patients. Those who had high blood pressure were 11 women, accounting for 11% of patients.
Conclusion: The study showed that the prevalence of peripartum cardiomyopathy was highest among women aged 30-39, accounting for approximately 55%, and the age group of 20-29 as the second grade (40%). In the case of multiparous women, peripartum cardiomyopathy is also a concern.
