What You Need to Know about Overdrafts and Overdraft Fees
An overdraft occurs when you do not have enough money in your account to cover a transaction, but the credit union pays the transaction anyway.
Your overdrafts may be paid in two different ways: 1. There are the standard overdraft procedures that are part of your account benefits. 2. Other overdraft protection plans are available, for example using your savings account, which may be less expensive than the standard overdraft procedures. To learn more, ask a Member Advisor about other existing options. This notice describes our standard overdraft procedures: 1. What are the standard overdraft procedures that are included with my account? The credit union can authorize and pay overdrafts for the following types of transactions: a) Checks and other transactions made using your checking account number b) Automatic bill payments
The credit union cannot authorize and pay overdrafts for the following types of transactions unless you've given written permission to do so:
a) ATM transactions
b) Everyday debit card transactions
The credit union pays overdrafts at their discretion, which means there is not a guarantee that transactions that will overdraw your account will always be authorized and paid on any type of transaction (i.e. check, ATM or debit card). If the transaction is not authorized to pay in an overdraft situation, your transaction will be declined. 2. What fees will I be assessed if the credit union pays my overdraft? Under the standard overdraft procedures:
a. You will be charged a fee of up to $30 each time an overdraft is paid. b. There is no limit on the total fees that can be charged for overdrawing your account. 3. How do I authorize the credit union to authorize and pay overdrafts on my ATM and everyday debit card transactions?
