My role and responsibilities as a medication technician are to assist with managing resident medications. These medications are prescribed to treat chronic and or acute medical conditions.

Providing quality care by maintaining communication with residents, healthcare providers, facility supervisors, family members, regarding health conditions. Dispensing and assisting residents to consume medications. Assuring that the available medications coincide with what the provider has prescribed. Storing medications safely and properly. Ordering and refilling medications, never allowing a resident to run out of medication. Logging and centrally storing all medications upon arrival. Destroying medications as needed and in accordance with state and community procedures. Documenting all communications with providers, family, significant others, and each resident according to community policy. Continue observation of each resident for potential adverse reactions to medications and or signs and symptoms indicating the need for a change to the medication regimen. As Lead on duty, I can also be given the task of infection control ambassador, staffing assistant, liaison for the community on behalf of the residents, families, providers, and visitors. Also work under direct supervision of a licensed RN or LVN, work one-on-one with many MD's as well as Hospice nurses and Pharmacists.
