I have taken a pre apprentice class on construction at a military academy. I know the basic skills that a construction worker needs. I learned how to read tape measure, use tools, and apply math skills in order to get the desired measurement. I also learned a couple troubleshooting skills in case something does go wrong. I also am currently enrolled in a cement masonry class and learning hands skills for the trade.

Hardware installer (sheet metal)

I was using a hydraulic punch press to install hardware in sheet metal. The hardware could be parts like nuts or screws that needed to be pressed into the piece of metal. Not all the parts were the same. I had to learn different set ups for my machine because not every part could be installed the same.

· I had to live on a military base for five months with 39 other youths like myself. I learned how to be a team player and how you can accomplish a lot more when you play your role. They also made sure we understood respect for peers, the importance of being organized, and how to meet deadlines. We did community service and went to highschool there. They really helped me get back on track with my academics.

· This academy was similar to Sunburst Youth Academy but instead it was more focused on getting us trained in a trade.I took a construction class over there and was also awarded executive officer of the academy. As executive officer I was in charge of planning trips and making sure that everyone was feeling safe and the overall well being of everyone in the academy.
