Gold Star Mothers of America

March 2019 to Present

Gold Star Mothers of America is an organization helping families of our fallen service men and women. Being a Gold Star Family means that you have lost someone such as a child, spouse, or sibling while they were on active duty serving our great country. We have retreats throughout the year and special events on Memorial Day. Since I became a member on March 5,2019, I have attend the yearly rededication of the Global War on Terrorism Memorial at Fort Benning, Georgia the weekend after Labor Day. The first time was in 2019 when my sons name was added to the memorial. Survivors Outreach Services and the North Alabama chapter of the American Gold Star Mothers were a huge part of having the Woody Williams Gold Star Families Monument placed at the Veterans Memorial Park in Huntsville, AL in 2020. We were instrumental in having a Blue Star Family (still serving) and a Gold Star Family (passed away while serving) markers placed at the Veterans Park also.. Along with all the formal and serious stuff, we also go to baseball games, hockey games, Participate in military appreciation night at the Botanical Gardens Galaxy of Lights.. complete with a Santa Clause and a reception before walking through The Gardens to see the light displays. Another event my family enjoys attending is a production of the Nutcracker.. Huntland Lions Club

September 2022 to Present

Through fundraisers such as Bingo/Chili Night, selling hot chocolate during the Christmas Parade, Silent Auctions and various other activities the Lions Club is able to assist with the needs of our small community. We provide eyeglasses, scholarships, sports equipment, basically anything the students of our Pre-K thru 12th grade school needs for those whose families need a little extra help. In addition to helping the school children, we have assisted with electric bills and ramps for the elderly and providing meals before our home football games and purchasing band equipment.
