CAIC Campaign for Alternatives to Isolated Confinement - New York
Advocate and volunteer for CAIC, a group of legal organizations with members and friends, formerly or currently incarcerated persons. CAIC formulated the HALT bill (Humane Alternatives to LongTerm) isolated confinement, now before the NY legislature since January 2014. Participate in lobby trips to Albany starting in 2014 and monthly rallies in NYC for NY prison reform. The HALT bill was finally passed in March 2021. Implementation of the prison reform has been continuing since then with related efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic to remove those incarcerated at Rikers Island prisons due to the extensive infection there
