Birdseye Building Company – 2005 to 2023

Birdseye is an employee-owned, architectural design and build company located in Richmond, VT. In addition to design/build, services offered by Birdseye include fine woodworking and metalwork, site development, landscape construction, and custom property services.

During my 18-year tenure at Birdseye, I performed many jobs, the majority of which fall within the general headings of project development and management. For clarity, I have separated my work at Birdseye by Company divisions.

Building Division —

·Managed multiple project revenue streams in the $20 to $30 million range

·Built and grew relationships with existing and new vendors and sub-contractors, locally, nationally, and internationally

·Managed on-going projects and grew client base through personal relationships and word-of-mouth

·Contributed as a team member to develope, expand, and refine project estimating and presentation methods for all Birdseye divisions

·Client-facing interactions included budgeting, invoicing, project information and status updates, from concept to completion

Sitework Division

·On-site work with excavation, civil engineering, and landscape architects from concept to completion of complex land development, shoreline, and building projects

·Developed estimating and reporting tools for Sitework projects and maintained same from project concept to completion

·Operated as the single point of interface between all site trades, professions, and Birdseye

·Built and maintained schedules and forecast for financing and leasing of Birdseye capital assets and properties

Woodshop Division

·Facilitated and managed communication and budgeting between Woodshop and building projects for custom work, standard cabinetry, and unique wood creations

Architecture Division

·Forwarded new business leads to the architectural design group

·Worked with the architectural design group to create client-facing presentations using current and historical budget data

·Aided in the creation of project outlines by providing client concepts for translation into drawings and sketches

Away.com – 2000 to 2003, Director of Production Systems

Adventurous Traveler Bookstore – 1995 to 2000

Adventurous Traveler was an internet bookseller with a focus on outdoor and adventure travel books. We started as a group of three individuals and grew the company to an 80-person team with investors both locally in Vermont and in New York City.

Appalachian Mountain Club – 1991 to 1994

I worked in the AMC White Mountain huts during summer vacations from college, initially as a hut crew member and in later years as Assistant Hutmaster, and Hutmaster. Hut crew responsibilities included cooking, cleaning and general hut maintenance. The Assistant and Hutmaster jobs were leadership positions in which I managed and oversaw all aspects of hut operation including, crew management, guest bookings, supply ordering, and from time-to-time, lost-hiker search and rescue.

Knowledge and Skills

I am a strategic thinker and a creative problem solver. I work well with groups to brainstorm new ideas and to effectively translate those ideas into practical solutions. I think outside the box. Numbers speak to me.
