WORK EXPERIENCE

Assistant Plant Supervisor / Plant Supervisor – Saskatchewan Food Industry Development Centre Inc.

February 2015 to present

The Food Centre is a diverse food production and processing facility, encompassing meat, vegetable and specialty food products, for small to medium sized entrepreneurs and businesses in Saskatchewan.

Responsibilities include:

a)Schedule employees in coordination with production requirements.

b)Create Spreadsheets on efficiency, yield and costing.

c)Maintain production documentation as required.

d)Work with new and existing clients to improve their efficiency and yields.

e)Assist clients with equipment operations, room setup, and preparation for cleaning equipment as required.

f)Maintain positive client relationships.

Priarie Meats is a wholesale and retail meat cutting and meat processing operation in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

Responsibilities included:

a)Monitor plant operations and personnel to efficiently produce a safe, quality product.

b)Perform regular administrative duties, including computerized reporting and budgeting, and respond to issues by phone, fax or email as necessary.

It processes a wide range of meat products (including beef, lamb, rabbit, chicken, and bison) and vegetable compounds, and packages a wide variety of nutritional supplements for pets.

b)Schedule and coordinate shipment and receipt of products.

c)Work with the production manager to eliminate waste and improve yield.

d)Coordinate production needs with abattoir’s operations, to ensure fresh inventory is available to meet customer orders.

New Food Classics Inc. was a large, unionized meat production facility in Saskatoon. Its primary focus was on the processing and production of hamburger patties. Its products were generally made from ground beef, although it produced a veggie burger patty for one of its larger retail fast-food customers.

Supervisory Responsibilities included:

a)Supervise production and unionized personnel to efficiently produce a safe, quality product.

b)Manage departments through preventative maintenance programs.

c)Collaborate with R&D in the development of new product lines.

d)Authorize schedule changes, including overtime and premium pay for employees.

e)Manage within a collective bargaining agreement, deal with union grievances, administer progressive discipline when necessary.

f)Update and create Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), an operational policy manual and guide, for my department’s operations.

g)Perform administrative duties as required, such as responding to emails, reviewing and preparing reports in excel format, prepare written reports in word for senior managers.

h)Conduct workplace investigations and respond to findings of investigations (e.g. implement progressive discipline if an employee issue, modify production line if a safety issue).

i)Establish and manage modified duties assignments for temporarily disabled employees.

Machine Operator & Production Worker Responsibilities included:

a)Daily collect all tools and equipment for the safe operation of the assigned machine(s).

b)Check to ensure that equipment was in job-mode prior to starting to operate machine.

c)Check to ensure that all safeties were working and that any /all interlocks were in place.

d)Pick up and take certified lockout locks to the machine being operated at the start of each shift, in case any repairs were required to machinery, so that proper lockout procedures can be followed.

e)Obtain and maintain knowledge of set-up and tear-down of all machines in the plant.

f)Read and be familiar with a machine’s operating and safety manuals, and keep them handy for reference whenever required.

g)Troubleshoot machine problems when required (and know when to call maintenance and when not to).

h)Identify and prevent future problems in machine and equipment operations.

i)Manage production line in order to reduce downtime (my crew consistently had the least downtime of any crew).

j)Adopt continuous learning attitude and improve existing skills as an operator whenever available.

Reason for Leaving: Company declared bankruptcy.
