• Operates radiographic and fluoroscopic equipment, x-ray equipment, CT scanners for computed tomography, mammography and magnetic resonance imaging equipment to produce radiographs or anatomical images of the human body to enable the radiologist to diagnose disease or injury.
• Record and process patient data.
• Monitors patients and provides necessary care during radiographic examinations.
• Explain procedures to patients, position patients and equipment, and apply radiation safety rules.
• May train and supervise radiography students or supervise other radiology technologists
• Use radiation detection devices, such as gamma cameras, CT scanners, scintigraphy and scintitomography counters, and ionization chambers, to collect data for nuclear medicine specialists to diagnose disease.
• Apply the rules of radioprotection.
• Use linear gas pedals and cobalt, x-ray or other radiation therapy machines to deliver radiation prescribed by radiation oncologists.
• Explain to patients the possible side effects of radiation.
• May train and supervise student radiation oncology technologists or supervise other radiation oncology technologists
