Piping Designer with expertise in Refining, Petrochemical, Pipeline, Off-Shore, and others projects for the past 45 years. I started my career as a model maker in 1972 at Foster Wheeler. Then took formal Basic and Advance Piping Design training at Fluor in 1974. Design philosophy based on presentation, safety, construction & maintenance; focused on minimizing downtime and long-term maintenance/repair costs.
I am former member of the board of directors and instructor for the Society of Piping Engineers & Designers (SPED), Houston, TX. Courses taught include: Process Plant Layout; Pipe Rack Design; Structures; Tank Farms; et al. I am a level 4 (highest) with SPED’s PPN certification.
I have had 2 articles published in Hydrocarbon Magazine about Plant and Piping Design. They were about being introduce to the job site and keeping safe. The other was about basic Piping design, line numbering, instruments and designing safety in a plant.
I have been working with CAD systems since about 1984. The system that I am the most proficient at would be AutoCAD based programs. Among those, I have used the CadWorx programs for several years.
I have a web site www.johnlgay.com, however it has nothing to do with Plant Design. I am a woodworker and will use those skills to help raise money for some good groups, helping The Girl Scouts with their woodworking merit badge and selling my work at art shows.
