PROFESSIONAL ACCOMPLISHMENTS/FIELD EXPERIENCE

2016-2022 Service-learning in the Geosciences, Texas A&M University

Created curriculum for credit-bearing fieldwork both domestically and abroad. Each successive class would build upon the relationship-building done by the prior cohort. These relationships were forged with stakeholders in three water communities, known as ASADAS. Cohort #1 was able to get the officers of each of the ASADAS to sit in a room together to discuss local water concerns. The leaders had not met together for over 30 years. Cohort #2 was able to teach the WaSH (water, sanitation, and hygiene) to over 90 Costa Rican school children. Cohort #3 conducted in- house water surveys water insecurity in each of the 3 locations using mWater data and GIS. Following cohorts amplified data analysis and community engagement based on work accomplished by prior cohorts.

2015-2023 Advisor to Wine To Water student organization, Texas A&M University.

Ensures compliance with student activities, and all financial matters.

Volunteer impact includes students in Costa Rica and W W in Ethiopia. Worked on fundraising to earn enough money for a Filter Build event to help replenish the stock at W W depleted from their relief efforts through us in Texas. The Filter Build has become an annual event for the TAMU W W student organization bringing in students from all majors, and local civil and community members donors and volunteers. Under my management, direction, and instruction, the filters the student organization has helped to replenish through these efforts have been used thus far in Puerto Rico, Florida, Louisiana, southeast Texas, and Tanzania.

Received 200 industrial size gallon water filter kits from W W when Hurricane Harvey hit; students in the TAMU W W student organization helped prep the 5-gallon buckets and put together the filter kits for delivery; delivered all of the filter-buckets to Rockport, Wharton,

Beaumont, Port Arthur, Vidor, Orange, and Rose City; enlisted assistance from the Cajun Navy while in Port Arthur. Panelist with Texas Task Force One post-Harvey conference center at Texas Department of Emergency Management (TDEM).

Distributed 255 ZeroWater pitchers and filters impacted by winter storm

Uri (February 2021) in Corpus Christi, Palestine, Baytown, Port Arthur, Waco, Livingston, TAMU campus. Also provided canned water donated by Jason Mamoa’s company, Mananalu, to various fire departments including College Station and Corpus Christi.

Co-authored curriculum used on WTW volunteer trips (introductory and advanced).

2015-2020 Wine To Water field experience:

One of five participants qualified and selected to participate in multiple international water

projects with WTW:

Tanzania (2015)

Costa Rica (2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020)

Ethiopia (2018)

Dominican Republic (2018, 2019)

Projects completed ranged from well installation, well-

rehabilitation, latrine trenching, water testing, and assisting with WaSH projects. Working alongside local geophysicist in each location, unlike many field projects, data collection was awarded to the local ministry of health in each location rather than returning to the University. Received multiple achievement awards. Research projects continue to present time. Data stored for historical reference in mWater.

2014 Credentialed victim advocate in Texas. Work as a victim advocate with the Sexual Assault Resource Center (SARC), a local agency that serves 7 counties of the Brazos Valley. Required reading for all cadets in officer-in-training track at the United States Coast Guard Academy who will take command of a US Coast Guard vessel. Published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. Thesis is credited with providing the impetus to award the Coast Guard Medal (posthumously) to William “Billy” Flores who is credited with saving countless lives the night of the collision. I was invited to the commissioning of the William Flores, USCG Cutter, in 2011, and was also given a facsimile of the medal his family received in his memorial of his heroism.
