RESEARCH EXPERIENCE
•Worked as a Research Fellow in Karunya University for a period of one year and six months in DBT-RGYI project. The project was on the implementation of nanoparticles and microbes in textile dye effluent treatment.
Techniques learnt – HPLC, GC-MS, Chromatography, Anaerobic work chamber, FTIR, SEM, XRD
•Worked as a Research Fellow in Christian Medical College. The objective of the project is to evaluate the possible mediators of the mild phenotype observed in severe hemophilia A. Also worked on the characterization of FVII mutant invitro and on the mutation screening of Gray Platelet syndrome patients.
Techniques learnt – Molecular diagnosis of bleeding disorders, Gene therapy, Cell culture techniques, Stem cell technology, Animal handling.
PROJECT WORK
1.Under Graduate Project: “A study on the anti-oxidant and antimicrobial activity of Prunus cerasoides” at PSG College of Arts & Science.
Techniques learnt – Spectrophotometry, Colorimetry, HPLC, Mass spectrometry, GC-MS
Project overview – The anti-oxidant activity of the bark extracts of Prunus cerasoides was estimated by its ability to scavenge hydroxyl radicals, nitroxide radicals, and sulphoxide radicals. There was a significant increase in the scavenging activity of the plant extract compared to the standard used. Similarly, the extract also showed potent anti-microbial activities against Escherichia coli, Proteus vulgaris, Salmonella typhi, and streptococcus.
2.Post Graduate Project: “Comparison of Agrobacterium and particle gun mediated gene transformation methods in Eucalyptus camaldulensis” at Institute of Forest Genetics and Tree Breeding (IFGTB-ICFRE).
Techniques learnt – Particle bombardment, Gene gun method, Cell culture, Transformation,
Transfection
Project overview - The aim of the project was to compare the efficiency of transformation achieved by different methods such as Agrobacterium tumefaciens mediated transformation and particle gun mediated transformation of Eucalyptus camaldulensis. Additionally, a combination of both Agrobacterium and particle gun mediated transformation was also done to check its efficiency. Selectable markers namely GUS and GFP were used in the screening of the transformants. The number of transformants was higher in the Agrobacterium mediated transformation.
INTERNSHIPS
Under Graduate Internship: At Mrithasanjivini Labs, R.S.Puram, Coimbatore from May 2008-June, 2008.
Hands - on training:
•Biochemical analyses.
•ELISA and EIA
