JP Morgan Chase, Vice President, FILE-PRINT ENGINEERING, 2010 to 2015 JP Morgan Chase, Vice President, SOLUTIONS ENGINEERING, 2005 to 2010 Led the Global Print and Infrastructure Billing Engineering team of 6-10FTE\FTC resources that conceived and developed automated services and systems to improve productivity, increase stability, improve risk profile, lower costs and improve user experience. Primary technologies of responsibility were global desktop printing systems, network fax and infrastructure billing systems. Print and fax were two of the very few both rated category 1 products which puts them in the category of highest criticality to the firm. The printing scope of responsibility covered well over 300,000 users, apx 300 Wintel servers and project budgets spanned $100,000 to $15MM. Billing systems accounted for approximately $130MM, annually, of blue and green dollars. Managed the development team (2-4) that created infrastructure applications for file and print engineering on the Wintel platform. Primarily followed the Waterfall Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), but also used Agile methodology with strict adherence to source\version control and QA\UAT, the team used: Framework/Operating/Databases: Active Directory, ASP.NET, .NET, MS Server, MS SQL 2005 / 2008, WCF Coding and scripting: C#, REST, PowerShell, VB, JScript, java script, HTML, T-SQL, XML For some projects, performed program and\or project management functions that included all of the 47 PMI processes found in all phases and knowledge areas (e.g. charter creation, WBS creation, plan project plan, stakeholder management, requirements gathering, risk management, SOW negotiation and communications. Achievement Highlights
Recognized and then mitigated the risk vulnerability from the unsecured (with no visibility) print environment.
Introduced transparency into storage and print costs which allowed LOBs to control their costs and eliminate unexpected fluctuations to their expenses.
Introduced tracking and logging of the massively large print volume (approx. 1 billion pages per year).
Introduced greatly improved user productivity and flexibility by incorporating more user self-administration, automated detection and automation and enhancements.
Introduced assorted web portals for sys admin, LOB finance management cost control and planning, user self-administration and risk and compliance forensic investigations.
Initiated new team building endeavors by using mentoring, Lunch and Learn knowledge sharing sessions, technology cross training and global cross group technology sharing sessions (Thinking Out Loud) with partner technology groups
Representative Work
Systems Engineering: Led strategy planning, architecture, engineering and deployment planning for multinational rollout of robust, scalable and secure print systems. Project SmartPrint (managed print services), Project SmartQueue (secure pull print), Universal Based Billing and PrintMe Mobile Print were some of systems that change the face of printing. The team was responsible all components of print from the desktop print driver, print server driver, related infrastructure codes, queue creation and provisioning system and methodology, administration and billing systems for print volume, support paradigm and printer hardware management and controls.
Results: Projects listed were worked on from inception to deployment resulted in massive cost savings, user productivity and improved risk and control profile. These were deployed to the global user community with no severity 1 issues.
Innovations: Conceived or identified opportunities that resulted in massive improvement to assorted infrastructure systems.
Results: Many of the systems, infrastructure codes and products thatwere conceived or initiated by me resulted massive cost improvement (approx. $20MM per year reduction in print), enhanced user productivity
(example: user prints to a ‘cloud’ and can select any printer in the firm to pull retrieve jobs without having to have specific print queue assigned, ability to print from mobile device and self-admin for queue provisioning) and risk enhancements (tracking and logging of print jobs for forensics and compliance, password protecting and centralized updating all 20,000 printers and cost transparency to data storage, print and network costs) Edward Lee

Custom Infrastructure Software Developments: Managed all phases of the software development lifecycle (SDLC and Agile) for assorted custom solutions. Applications ranged from solutions that provide the ability for users to print from handheld devices, systems that track and allocate costs for users network accounts and storage, web portal for user self admin of print queues and risk\compliance systems that offers new visibility to print traffic so that, if needed, can be used for forensics and litigation. Through comprehensive elicitation of user and LOB requirements, painstaking effort to identify use cases and properly developed UAT multiple applications, portals and systems were successfully rolled. Results: Delivered solutions to over 200,000 users and installed on 200 servers, globally, without any adverse impact.
System Integrations/Migrations: Managed engineering teams for large-scale initiatives involving the transition of programs to new platforms and the merger of disparate systems from acquired companies. Results: Achieved seamless migrations and integrations (BankOne, Chase-Chemical, Vastera acquisition) that were transparent to clients with no unscheduled downtime and delivered within budget.
Marketing: Conceived and produced a series of global technology marketing expos to showcase my group’s innovations across the firm. The genesis for these events was to showcase the group’s products and programs when it caught the attention of JPM’s CIO, he wanted the event scope broadened to include every technology group in the firm.
Results: A series of open events held in cities in Asia, EMEA and the US. Also, exclusive showcases produced for Chairman and CEO Jamie Dimon’s Annual Senior Leadership Meeting, JPMC Board of Directors and the annual CEO summit of the top 200 US firms. All received acclaim and recognition from JP Morgan’s users and the firm’s CIO.
Social Responsibility: While the justifications for SmartPrint and SmartQueue were primarily cost containment, enhanced user functionality / productivity and improved risk profile, there were ancillary significant environmental benefits, too.
Results: A 30% decrease in the print volume to well under 1 billion pages per year and a 70% hardware reduction to approx.12,000 devices resulted in positive environmental impact by reducing paper, toner usage, power consumption and air conditioning.
