Rosemount Analytical Inc., Emerson Process Management Solon, Ohio and Houston, Texas

2005 - 2014

Director, Supply Chain, Houston, Texas (2009 - 2014)

Led a team of five Supervisors / Senior Purchasing Professionals and 15 nonexempt technical / materials support staff members. Managed a total spend of $100M; $80M direct and $20M indirect, and an inventory on hand of $20M for three (Houston, Texas; Solon, Ohio; Mexicali, Mexico) plant sites manufacturing engineered-to-order process gas analyzers.

Turnaround the Supply Chain operations. Company’s customer on time delivery was 59%, supplier on time 65%, backlog over $12M, $6M was late, and material shortages were averaging 17 a day. Directed a cross functional team to implement a monthly material readiness review, daily root cause program, and increased e-kanban coverage. Result: Customer on time delivery improved to over 92%, supplier OTD to over 90%, backlog was reduced 58% to less than $5M, late backlog to under $1M, and material shortages of less than 1 per week.

Improved Trade Working Capital. Inventory turns were averaging 4 and days payable outstanding (DPO) was 39 days. Created an ABC control procedure, implemented a cycle count program, directed the Commodity Managers to negotiate better payment terms, and recovered value from excess / obsolete material. Result: Inventory turns doubled to 8 and the DPO improved to 64 days.

Led a best-in-class New Product Development support team. Parent company completed review of business unit’s new product development phase gate program. Result: Supply Chain support was rated best-in-class for supplier selection, qualification, validation, lead time reduction, component lifecycle management, REACH/RoHs compliance, and quality management system.

Championed a product line review / rationalization process. The business unit was losing significant amounts of money. Result: A more streamlined operation and a 12.6% profit; the largest profit in company history.

Provided materials / supply chain support for a newly-opened manufacturing site in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico. Led a team of four buyers in Ohio, and 3 buyers in Nuevo Laredo, and managed the planning and purchasing functions for the site. Total spend of $20M direct and $5M indirect.
