Grange Mutual Casualty Company, Columbus Ohio 1996 – March 2017

Lead Developer

One of only twenty associates selected for Grange’s Emerging Leaders program. High performing, highly motivated associates with managerial potential were selected for this program.

Designed, developed and implemented web applications and databases supporting operational processes. Claims Document Automation reduced the time from 7 min per letter to 30 seconds a letter. Users produce over 50,000 letters per year. Used store and forward method when saving letters into the claims system to reduce waiting time for the user when completing a letter.

Successfully implemented many claims vendor interface projects. The rental project with Enterprise and Hertz reduced rental processing from 1 day to 10 minutes. The reservation process as well as the invoice process, including payment to the vendors were fully automated. Website and web services contained comments throughout the code and were written with consistency and clarity.

Created console applications for large data extracts to vendors. Used multi-threaded processing to reduce run times.

Created a weather website for the Claims department. This website took in NOAA data, Verisk data and company policy/claim data. Claims could use this to forecast weather incidents, have real time information on policy holder weather claims as well as help deny fraudulent claims.

Re-architected outdated processes and technical flows for efficiency, reducing and eliminating technical debt.
