Personal Statement

I have over 34 years experience in the Oil and Gas Industry, with knowledge of Cementing, Sand Control, Stimulation, Tools & Testing, MWD/LWD, Directional Drilling, and Drilling Supervisory positions in many areas of the world. I am experienced with land and offshore operations. As of the last few years, I have been more involved in HPHT narrow margin wells. I was involved them management of drilling a HTHP/MPD, exploration oil well offshore Cameroon. Drilled 12 ” section with no issues. But there was no offset data, only best guess PP and FG by reservoir engineers. We had to routinely do dynamic Formation Pressure and Formation Gradient tests using the MPD to keep a lookout for increasing trend in the Pore Pressure.

When the downturn hit, I did rig assessments for HPHT well control equipment. I began to advise, mentor, and train HPHT drilling techniques for well control procedures in the North Sea with the likes of Gas de France, Nexen, and TAQA. You really learn the HPHT well control skills when you teach them to the drilling crew on the rig floor. I feel now I can be of use as a HPHT DSV in a real sense of the word. As a HPHT DSV in the past, I was really confident with MPD, using it to determine PP and FG. But, I was too busy with normal DSV work, i.e. safety, logistics, work instructions, and meetings to really be involved. I have always been good with using gamma/resistivity/PP trends from my LWD/DD days, but now I can really work with the geologist more closely. I will be able to build confidence in the HPHT well control techniques, i.e. stripping, flow checks, and dummy connections. After all, HPHT is really just the same drilling practices we have always used in large margin wells. You now have to pay serious attention to detail for HPHT. I can be another set of eyes for well flow back trends in my office while attending to DSV normal activities.

Work Experience

July 2015 – Jan 2016 Consultant Senior Drilling Supervisor

TAQA North Sea, Aberdeen UK.

I worked in the office from the beginning of planning the HPHT/H2S subsea abandonment with the John Shaw Semi. I went to all the planning/morning meetings in the office and wrote the HPHT section of the Well Abandonment for well control.

I went to the John Shaw to do a well control audit to assess the well control critical equipment for use on the well.

I created five presentations to create a “reassuring confidence” in the drilling team onshore/offshore showing, exactly, how we planned to keep the rig safe. It was decided to use a cleanup package to burn off H2S and condensate safely.

I had direct input offshore on all drilling instructions, morning, and planning conference calls. I coached the drilling team for handling HPHT well control techniques throughout the completion of abandonment, strip drills, well control drills, and communication skills.

December 2014 – July 2015 Consultant Senior HPHT Drilling Supervisor
