Chief Information Officer
Mattress Firm is 900 million dollar specialty retailer with 850 corporate stores, 117 franchised locations, and 32 distribution centers. Responsible for all technology decisions throughout the organization. Developed multi-year strategic technology plans and managed systems the areas of: ERP, Store Operations, Ecommerce, Merchandising, Planning, Allocation, Finance, Human Resources, Warehousing and Home Delivery. The company went public in November 2011, which provided me the equity to start my own consulting business.
Harry and David, Medford, OR 2007 – 2010
Chief Information Officer
Harry and David is a 600 million dollar vertically integrated retailer with operations in: Manufacturing, Orchards, Stores (130 locations), Ecommerce, Logistics, Catalog, Direct Marketing, Wholesale, B2B, Finance, Human Resources, Distribution, Warehousing, and Transportation. During my tenure, the economy and retail sector experienced one of the worst declines in history. Through teamwork, we scaled back our expense and capital budgets in an effort combat the difficult economic times, with no impact on our ability to support and improve technology. The company filed for bankruptcy in 2009, resulting in my departure.
Stein Mart, Inc., Jacksonville, FL 1996 – 2007
Vice President, Information Systems
Stein Mart is a 1.5 billion dollar off price department store retailer with locations nationwide. They have operations in the areas of: Stores (267 locations), Merchandising, Sourcing, Planning, Allocation, Finance, Human Resources, Distribution, and Logistics. After an 8-year career with Abercrombie & Fitch, I was recruited to Stein Mart by a former CFO. Upon my arrival, the company had extremely unstable systems and minimal information architecture. Through experience, I brought together a team of talented managers, technicians, and system architects. Together we developed and implemented state of the art applications, allowing the company to grow from 60 to 267 stores.
Abercrombie & Fitch, Columbus, OH 1988 – 1996
Director, Information Systems
Abercrombie is an upscale retailer of young men’s and women’s clothing and accessories. With locations nationwide, they have operations in the areas of: Stores, Ecommerce, Catalog, Merchandising, Sourcing, Planning, Allocation, Finance, Human Resources, Distribution, and Logistics. My employment with Abercrombie started when The Limited purchased the company from Oshmans Sporting Goods. I was brought in as the Systems Development Manager, initially responsible for the conversion of systems from the Oshmans environment. Eventually I was promoted to the Director of IT, which was the top IT position in the company. Through my leadership, we were instrumental in preparing Abercrombie’s technology for the separation from The Limited, allowing them to become a public company.
