Employment History

Briggo, Austin, TX February – November 2016

Senior Electrical Engineer: Lead efforts of taking electronics from prototype to production ready with an emphasis on delivering a more cost effective, reliable and easier to troubleshoot and repair product. Eliminated inefficiencies and greatly reduced cost by implementing a robust PCB design incorporating motor and actuator controls, temperature sensing, digital and analog circuitry and communications between modules.

Nabors-CanRig, Houston, TX November 2014 – November 2015

Senior Automation Engineer: Wrote and implemented advanced control loops in LabVIEW to improve the performance and efficiency of the company’s autodriller system. Implement Matlab Simulink models for HIL testing and coordinated test code. Provide “last resort” field support.

National Oilwell Varco, Cedar Park TX December 2005 – October 2014

Electrical Engineer: Designed, developed, tested and installed electronics for many of NOV’s flagship products that are used in the oilfield drilling equipment. Gathered requirements and functional specifications from stake holders and teams to estimate costs and to coordinate scheduling. Conceptualized products and prototyped high risk circuitry. Composed schematic design, component selection, simulations, analysis and held design reviews. Conducted PCB design layouts with IPC standards and EMC design practices. Wrote peripheral low level drivers in C/C++ for testing and functional verification. Tested products for safety and EMC compliance; worked with UL and other certifying agencies. Provided drawings, reports, test procedures and manuals to manufacturing.

Expert contributions:

Designed and development from conception to production several of the company’s PCB including the company’s fastest and most ruggedized data acquisition system consisting of hardware and software configurable input/output/analog/digital intrinsically safe channels.

Developed PLC code for controlling surface motors and downlinking to downhole mud-motors and steerable tools. Implemented a server side schema to manage failsafe protocols and a method to interphase to external computers. Wrote a distributable .net dll that was provided to customer for product interface. In addition wrote PLC code for several other projects for test and verification purposes.

Wrote control logic in C/C++ for several systems but specialized in optimizing PID loops that are used in the company’s autodriller to control several key functions such as bit rate and bit weight as well as differential pressure and top-drive torque.

Terion, Plano TX December 2004 – October 2005

Electrical Engineer: Optimization of factory testing where UUT test time was reduced over 50% from 18 minutes to 7 minutes by improving test hardware features and test algorithms. Designed several low power circuits to interface to an industrial truck trailer’s diagnostics data such as tire pressure and battery voltage levels using CAN protocol. Extended battery life of product 33% by designing and incorporating a solar charging peripheral. Improved cargo sensing algorithms used in company’s acoustic sensor.

Schlumberger Wireline, Bakersfield CA January – August 2004

Junior Field Engineer: Gathered wellsite geological data using high level specialized level tools that measured for resistivity, porosity, density using techniques such as electromagnetic, microwave frequencies, signal processing, gamma ray spectroscopy, sonic and ultrasonic measurements. Also responsible for the job tasking and safety of assisting technicians. Final product consisted of a highly detail report that allowed geologist to determine if wellsite was economically profitable.

U.S. Army & Texas National Guard June 1995 – June 2002

Mechanized Infantry: specialized in nuclear, biological, chemical operations. Deployed to Macedonia and served as diplomacy specialist to negotiate terms and conditions during peace treaty implementation. As a supervisor of a team, I served as the squad’s radio specialist.
