Chinese hamster ovarian cells (CHO-K1) are grown in culture with varying concentrations of leptin. Cell growth kinetics, Bradford Assay, and colony forming efficiency will be used to measure the affects of leptin on cell proliferation.

Evolutionary Genetics in Drosophila melanogaster (June 2014 - August 2014)

Gene knockout was used in order to find which genes at a certain loci might play a role in mate identification and mating rituals.

Tryptophan Tracking in Ciona intestinalis (June 2014 – August 2014)

Using CRISPR-CAS gene editing, Ciona intestinalis was edited to tag tryptophan synthesis using GFPs. The neurological development of Ciona intestinalis was then observed using fluorescent microscopy.

Stem Cell Analysis in Nematoda (June 2014- August 2014)

Nematode species were exposed to UV radiation, nutritional deficiencies, and desiccation. Stem cell survival was measured for each species and compared.
