Duties: Special Agent conduct complex investigations in response to complaints or evidence of alleged securities fraud. The investigation of financial crime involves intense efforts to examine and analyze large quantities of information ranging from electronic data to paper records. Special Agents are required to field investor complaints related to suspicious, unsuitable and/or illegal investment offerings and the sale of fraudulent and unregistered investment products. The Enforcement Division coordinates its actions with the ASC Legal Division and local, state and federal authorities to thoroughly examine complaints, analyze financial transactions and help bring legal action against any person or entity that violates the Alabama Securities Act.

The principal responsibilities of an Investigator are the investigations of complaints and violations of Title 8, Chapter 6, Code of Alabama (1975), and the general enforcement of the provisions of the Act (hereinafter referred to as ASA), which may include inspection and examination of Dealers and Investigators records. Due to the close co-operations existing between the U.S. Securities and & Exchange Commission, the U.S. Postal Service, State Attorney General and County District Attorney and the Securities Commission, an Investigator must necessarily concern himself with possible violations of the Federal Securities Law, Mail Fraud/Wire Fraud Statute, the Alabama Grand Larceny and Conspiracy Statutes and any other pertinent violations that may become apparent during the conduct of an investigation or examination.

Duties: Provide for public safety by maintaining order, responding to emergencies, protecting people and property, enforcing motor vehicle and criminal laws, and promoting good community relations. Identify, pursue, and arrest suspects and perpetrators of criminal acts. Record facts to prepare reports that document incidents and activities. Photograph or draw diagrams of crime or accident scenes and interview principals and eyewitnesses. Monitor traffic to ensure motorists observe traffic regulations and exhibit safe driving procedures. Relay complaint and emergency-request information to appropriate agency dispatchers. Issue citations or warnings to violators of motor vehicle ordinances. Direct traffic flow and reroute traffic in case of emergencies. Inform citizens of community services and recommend options to facilitate longer-term problem resolution. Provide road information to assist motorists.

Process prisoners, and prepare and maintain records of prisoner bookings and prisoner status during booking and pre-trial process. Inspect public establishments to ensure compliance with rules and regulations. Act as official escorts, such as when leading funeral processions or firefighters. Examine crime scenes to obtain clues and evidence, such as loose hairs, fibers, clothing, or weapons. Secure deceased body and obtain evidence from it, preventing bystanders from tampering with it prior to medical examiner's arrival. Obtain evidence from suspects.

Provide testimony as a witness in court. Analyze completed police reports to determine what additional information and investigative work is needed. Prepare charges or responses to charges, or information for court cases, according to formalized procedures. Note, marks, and photograph location of objects found, such as footprints, tire tracks, bullets and bloodstains, and take measurements of the scene. Obtain facts or statements from complainants, witnesses, and accused persons and record interviews, using recording device. Obtain summary of incident from officer in charge at crime scene, taking care to avoid disturbing evidence.

Examine records and governmental agency files to find identifying data about suspects. Prepare and serve search and arrest warrants. Block or rope off scene and check perimeter to ensure that entire scene is secured. Summon medical help for injured individuals and alert medical personnel to take statements from them. Provide information to lab personnel concerning the source of an item of evidence and tests to be performed. Monitor conditions of victims who are unconscious so that arrangements can be made to take statements if consciousness is regained. Secure persons at scene, keeping witnesses from conversing or leaving the scene before investigators arrive.

Preserve, process, and analyze items of evidence obtained from crime scenes and suspects, placing them in proper containers and destroying evidence no longer needed. Record progress of investigation, maintain informational files on suspects, and submit reports to commanding officer or magistrate to authorize warrants. Take photographs from all angles of relevant parts of a crime scene, including entrance and exit routes and streets and intersections. Question individuals or observe persons and establishments to confirm information given to patrol officers. Coordinate with outside agencies and serve on interagency task forces to combat specific types of crime. Maintain surveillance of establishments to obtain identifying information on suspects. Schedule polygraph tests for consenting parties and record results of test interpretations for presentation with findings

Duties: I enlisted in the Active Army in July 1978, attended and completed Basic Training and Advanced Individual Training (AIT) at Fort Jackson South Carolina in August of 1978. In February of 1985 I left active duty and enlisted in the Army Reserve, in July 2013, I retired from the Army Reserve after serving for 35 years. Coming up through the ranks as a young Soldier I was able to achieve the rank of Command Sergeant Major by being a hard worker and paying attention to detail. As a Command Sergeant Major my daily duties were as follows:

Supervision, supervised enlisted Soldiers, Officers and Civilians to ensure that performance, preparation, appearance, and behavior of all met the standards maintained by the Army. CSM bears the responsibility of disciplining all found in noncompliance of the standards.

Administration, As CSM I was expected to be an authority in all policies and procedures. In conjunction with supervision of the Command, as the CSM I had to be able to effectively carry out disciplinary procedures and miscellaneous tasks related to administration and paperwork, and was accountable for various rolls, reports, and rosters.

Advising, as the CSM I was responsible for making recommendations to the commanding officers as a result of my observation of the Units and broad knowledge of duties and expectations.

Performance: as the CSM I had to perform entirely devoid of supervision. Performing duties calmly, precisely, and earnestly is all expected of the soldiers holding the distinction of CSM. All of this is expected to be upheld even through the worst of times.
