PROFESSONAL EXPERIENCE
Regeneron Pharmaceuticals Inc. June 2016- April 2017 Research Assistant II
Work as part of a collaborative research and development team in prion like diseases department. Conduct exper- iments with minimal supervision using techniques including western blots, cell fractionation protocols, QPCR and RNA/DNA isolations.
Manage ordering for all lab supplies, document experimental results, organize cell inventory for PLD group.
Extensive Mammalian cell culture (mouse and human) freeze, passaging, cell counting, serial dilution for sub- cloning
lentiviral infection of cells
Western blotting and cell fractionation protocols UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AT SAN ANTONIO • 2011- 2016
Research Assistant I/Research Assistant II
Work as part of a multidisciplinary molecular biology laboratory under the guidance of Dr. John McCarrey. Manage all aspects of my project work, including cell culture, DNA isolations, mutation assays, preparation work, documen- tation, PCR, immunohistochemistry, stem cell differentiation, confocal microscopy, and more.
Assist with laboratory management, including equipment cleaning and sterilization, data presentation, training of laboratory personnel, inventory management, hazardous waste disposal, liquid nitrogen tank maintenance, and cell culture stock maintenance.
Promoted in January 2015 to Research Assistant II. Notable Projects Include:
Enhanced genetic integrity of mouse embryonic stem cells. Christine Hernandez Page 2
Analyzed the frequency and spectrum of spontaneous point mutations in 3 ESC cell lines over time; com- pared them to ESC-derived differentiated cells produced from the same lines.
Measured the doubling times of ESCs, differentiated cell types derived from the ESCs, and spontaneously differentiated cells derived from ESCs.
Results suggested ESCs employ active mechanisms to maintain enhanced genetic integrity relative to dif- ferentiated cell types.
Analyzed mutation frequencies following induction of epimutations by environmental disruptors.
Analyzed mutation frequencies of F1 generation and F3 generation using Big Blue Mutagenesis Assay Systems.
Concluded that Vinclozolin caused an increase in mutation frequencies in the F3 generation as an indirect mutagen. Caused a change in the epigenetic parameters of the F1 generation.
Analyzed mutations in immature mouse sperm for transplantation.
Perform mutational analysis to generate preliminary data for a grant. DSM CORPORATION • 2009-2010 Laboratory Technician, Nutraceuticals Assisted with daily laboratory duties for the enhancement of food and beverages using vitamin supplements.
Assisted with yearly portfolio updates by providing detailed information on vitamins percentages and more for the nutraceutical datasheets.
Performed blind taste tests to compare and rate enhanced products.
Performed color grading of food and drink to determine the amount of nutraceutical to be diluted in an item while maintaining the vitamin content and color appearance.
Analyzed the particle size distribution of vitamins being added to determine viscosity changes of the original product.
DSM CORPORATION • 2009 Laboratory Technician, Quality Control Assisted with daily laboratory duties in a full functioning GMP Quality Control Laboratory, testing finished product nutraceuticals including Vitamin C tablets.
Performed a variety of tests, including NIR, loss on drying, breaking force, friability, flowability, density, and dis- integration.
Assisted with validation documentation and created technical data sheets for new equipment to be placed on- line for company use.
BASF • 2008
Laboratory Technician, Hair and Skin Care
Worked in the Hair Care Applications Laboratory, visiting clients and determining the feasibility of environmental tasks to meet government guidelines.
Tested prototype products, including hair gels, hair sprays, shampoos, conditioners, and mousses.
Worked on a project to test the amount of glitter found in hair spray.
Performed panel testing for color stabilization of polymers and applied polymers to hair tresses for data compi- lation.
