I have had a long and varied career in the transportation industry, ranging from dockhand and forklift operator through driver and Instructor to Sales and Management and IT functions at the operational level to the highest levels of management as a General Manager and Director for several corporations. I am looking for a new work environment in which to share my experience, learn new techniques and technologies to expand my horizons, and a place to be a contributing member of a growing team. I have no restrictions physically or in my lifestyle that would prevent me from being available anytime or any place to meet the needs of the team.

Experience:

1967–1989 Central Freight Lines (various locations and travel assignments) Dockhand, forklift operator, driver, line driver, dock foreman, interline supervisor, Driver Instructor, Terminal Manager/Sales, Division and Region Manager Training and relief.

1989-1994 Merchants Fast Motor Lines

Laredo Terminal Manager and Mexico Gateway Manager; handled local, international, and trade-show business. Handled all U.S. Customs business. Accomplished conversion from direct-connect remote mainframe to PC-based platform, including all cabling, access, panels, and system maintenance. 1994-1994 Red Arrow Freight Lines

Hired as Laredo Gateway Manager to convert the Laredo service center from contract agent to company operation. Additionally tasked to make the Laredo operation profitable and prepare the local and international sections of the business for sale/merger/acquisition. Operated at 88% Operating Ratio or below through acquisition by ABF.

1994-1997 Southwestern Motor Transport (San Antonio Headquarters) Hired as Director of Terminal Operations to review and revamp terminal operations. San Antonio and Dallas were modernized and updated. Assigned Southern Region for Operations. Assigned supervision over HR function; assigned supervision of Safety function; assigned supervision of IT function; wrote plain-english system procedure manual. Sought and placed Rate Manager to handle updating rate Department. Wife suffered stroke and had to relocate for treatment. 1997-2000 SAIA Motor Lines (Houston)

Hired as STEP Manager (SAIA Terminal Efficiency Program) and maintained these duties throughout my tenure. New General Office position of STEP Program Manager created from the Houston work. Also assisted in regional Safety and all local Safety functions. Assigned and completed conversion of Houston Office from Sperry mainframe to PC-based emulation platform. Handled all driver relations with labor supplier (100+ drivers on contract daily). Feb 2000-Oct2010 Empire Truck Lines, Inc. (Laredo, Houston) Hired as Director of Sales and Operations for Mexico; handled all Mexico traffic and carrier relations and U.S. Customs business. Assumed management of the Laredo operation. Advanced to be the first Regional Manager in company history. Promoted to General Manager and moved to Houston General Office. Supervised new Regional Manager team and all aspects of Operations. Promoted to Director of Transportation. Held sales responsibility for Dow, Exxon, Home Depot, and Lowe’s Distribution Warehouse.

Oct 2010-Jan 2011 Trans Gulf Transportation, Inc. (Houston) Hired as General Manager to update, modernize, and streamline the company for acquisition by Dunavant Enterprises. Doubled our business with DOW and EXXON and assisted in all sales issues and work. Successfully completed assignment and moved to new corporate entity as General Manager of Trans Gulf division.

Jan 2011-Nov 2017 Dunavant Transportation Group

General Manager of Trans Gulf Division through acquisition of another trucking company in mid-2012. Promoted to Director of Projects and Implementation for the new Dunavant Transportation Group and became the company troubleshooter and systems improvement person for several years. Owner came to me and expressed a concern over recruiting and retention, which was not my field or responsibility, and asked if I would switch gears and attack our growth issues. I accepted and became Director of Recruiting for the Dunavant Transportation Group. Successfully added over 100 trucks to the system and developed the new Recruiting Module as we moved to the new TMW/Synergize operating platform for the company. On November 14, 2017 the company RIF’d the entire Recruiting section and moved the recruiting function to the terminal level under Safety supervision.
