Maintenance Software Specialist
Promoted to prominent position supporting 100+ sites in 17 states. Core duties involved direct system support for the National Directory Support System (NDSS) multiuser multitasking system running on HP RX 2620 computer or HP Itanium blade systems running OpenVMS. Also involved in support on every processing platform including DIOSS (Delivery Input Output Sub System), Flat Sorting Machines, Remote Computer Reader, Delivery Bar Coding System (DBCS), and Electronic Data Distribution Interface Windows computer running Digital Fountain Software used to retrieve multicast broadcast from system of VSATsatellites in geosynchronous orbit.
Selected Achievements:
●Spared company $18k in monthly fiber-underground utility costs by designing and building communications link to relay signals across buildings total system cost $25K to build and implement.
●Received three Vice-President’s Awards:
Saved $11M annually in production costs by designing and building system of relaying "flat" (magazine-sized mail pieces) images to remote encoding sites.
Delivered automation capability to medium-sized offices that had not received funding for equipment costing $7M+. Helped design and build modification to optical character readers and delivery bar code systems enabling units to lift images of unresolved mail pieces and send to Remote Encoding Centers.
Saved $100K+ by restoring software on Multiline Optical Character Reader via network after site crashed without backup. Restoration took less time than to mail backup tape from another site.
●Authored, developed, and taught courses on job functions of Directory Analyst, Remote Barcode systems, and Networking all three courses adopted nationally.
Designed and built remote camera system that enabled electronics technician to view internals of mail processing equipment, allowing National Service Technicians to troubleshoot offsite.
