Psychiatric hospitals, also known as mental hospitals, are h ospitals specializing in the treatment of serious m ental disorders.

NEED AND IMPORTANCE

Built form and built environment have through ages had an intrinsic quality of exerting a particular influence over the psyche of a person mentally retarded too. Have observed to exhibit certain reactions and responses to their surroundings. Regarding the physical environment, it is a belief that stimulus impoverishment causes perceptual and will accelerate the development of perceptual and cognitive abilities. In case of mentally retarded these individual have little or no control over the nature of this environment. It is especially important that those adults, who do have mind control, should exercise wisdom in selecting and suggesting a proper, controlled, enriched environment. Thus being a student of architecture i find out this special need of the mentally retarded to effectively use it as a tool in suggesting the ultimate design of the psychiatric hospital. OBJECTIVES AND SCOPE

To provide a proper carefully controlled and simulating environment which will fit in rehabilitation process of these mentally retarded persons . To provide adequate facilities to them to able to participate and ultimately be a part of the society.

To promote community feeling and increase social interaction through social counseling Academic Achievements
