Dear Sir/ Madame:
I am an undeclared first year student at the Smith School of Business, with interests in finance, marketing and consulting. I believe that I can offer new outlooks though a top tier education, excellent team skills developed on multiple high level sports teams and efficient time management capabilities proven during my time at Metro Incorporated. As a first year student, I am looking to gain experience in all facets of the business world. I am open to any opportunity as I am eager to learn. I believe that my skills can help in any facet of the work place. This previous year I have been part of Queen’s Varsity Men’s Rugby Team. During this time, I have developed effective time management skills, balancing both school and athletics. As well I was able to stand out as a leader on the field, gaining the respect of upper year team mates. My time on the team further developed my leadership and team work skills that can be transferable to the work place.
Furthermore, as a meat clerk at Metro Incorporated, I developed trust with management due my attention to detail, attitude towards tasks and excellent ability to interact with all customers and employees. The majority of my work involved self- supervision, where I was able to complete all tasks in a timely manner. During my employment, I was able to develop a new efficient way to clean the back room.
I have also done a lot of volunteer work in several ways such as, coaching, fundraising and assisting at a school. In my last two years of high school, I helped coach my school’s rugby team, teaching skills ranging from basic passing to advanced plays. As well, I was a key member in the organization of my high school’s Terry Fox Run where we raised over four thousand dollars. Finally, I consistently helped at a local school where I helped teachers move classroom, supervised kindergarten students and helped where ever I could in class.
Through my education, extracurricular and work experience, I believe that I can be a solid contributor and make a difference in your workplace. Thank you for your consideration and I hope to hear from you. Sincerely,
Stephen Lockhart
